What am I doing wrong ?
I try to change a pattern of my Korg Electribe SX via the MPC.
But if I put in the referring MSB/LSB/PrgCHange Data into an empty
Track of the MPC , nothing happens except the SX runs sync....

an idea anyone ??

MSB/LSB/PrgChange data according to what? The ESX MIDI implementation?

did you try to perform the program change in realtime on the sx and record it to a track in the mpc, or is this not possible because you are at the same time busy with other tasks?

Ok, I just tried it with my ESX. If you just enter a Program Change event in the MPC, it will change the ESX pattern depending on the program number. #1-128 correspond to patterns A01-B64 on the ESX.

I don't know how to change to patterns above that however, the ESX manual says you have to set the LSB to 1, which isn't possible with a simple Program Change message on the MPC.

Hi, selecta jo and _stilo_ !!!

To find out what the ESX is sending, I recorded MIDI into Cubase while I was pressing "PATTERN SET" plus a number. In my opinion, thats exactly a program change in the ESX.
The MIDI List Editor of Cubase gives me then some MSB/LSB data and of course a Program Change number.
When I record this into the MPC, same result, same data.

So i took an unused track in the MPC and put in that data. I sent it to the ESX which is set to all MIDI filters off, of course.
I also tried it by leaving the MSB/LSB data away, just program change. nothing happens...
The - lets say "ESX trigger track"- in the MPC is set to "MIDI", i selected the right MIDI port and MIDI channel, and its not muted.

So, is it me ? Is it the ESX ? Is it the MPC ?

cheers, dark111

And guess what, guys !!!!!

It´s the f**king MPC.
I just scanned the MPC MIDI output by using MIDI OX, and the MPC
just doesn´t send any Program Change, just the MSB/LSB stuff....

I tried it with several OSs, all the same.

This is a bug !!!!!

What a shame, akai !!!!!!!

I´m going to post that as a new thread, I think thats intersting for all
MPC2500 users.....

No it's not.

Did you read my previous post? Try what I described in there, it works perfectly. If it doesn't, you have mixed up something else.

A Program Change in the ESX is when you change the pattern. Not sure if it works in Pattern Set mode as well. Try it without that.

Read up on that in Ch. 7 of the ESX manual, the section about changing patterns (p. 94 in the german manual).

Dark, if you want to notify people about the bunk cc and pc info you should edit the heading of this thread.

I am very curious about this since i just bought max/ msp and planned on manipulating the mpc's info with it. Let us know what you find, i'll try some experimentingf w/ midi ox as well.

just a thought - does the korg have that PCM filter on? where you can filter what MIDI messages to accept / send.

m'bee?

Hey, guys, I´m back again with more information on that problem.

Regardless what kind of machine you want to perform a program change, the way in the MPC is it, to simply insert event type "Program change" in the"Step Edit" view, right ?
Of course, you must have set the corresponding track to "MIDI" with the right send channel selected.
OK. That´s exactly what I did. But for now, let´s send this MPC PROGRAM CHANGE-message to any kind
of MIDI-Monitor, lets say to MIDI OX or even Cubase List editor. -> NOTHING WILL BE VISIBLE OR RECORDED ! (Except of all(?) other messages like "Note" etc). Means to me: MPC is able to record "Program Change", and you can type it in as described above, but it does not SEND it !! Have a try, guys !!

By the way, _stilo_, i read all information you suggested in the manual and contacted Korg Germany to get information on Prg Change behaviour for the ESX. It´s exact the way you said. Only if you need a Prg Change ABOVE B64 or something, you need the MSB/LSB information....
this MSB/LSB information will be sent by MPC correctly, but NOT the simple
PRG Change.

Sorry mis-read that about the filters Stilo.

I have the Ea1 so its a similar issue I think.

What about if you have 4 tracks setup on MPC. One for Bank A (LSB/MSB=1) and one for Bank B (LSB/MSB=2) etc etc.

Then if the Korg recieves a PChange from Track1 the first bank will be selected, if the change is from Track 2, the Korg willl change to Bank B and selected PChange.

I don't know what or how you monitor, but this can't be true. I tried the method myself, and my ESX is responding, so the MPC has to send something.

Ok, that might be a problem...as I mentioned as well. Did you try to send an MSB/LSB event (how do you do that by the way?) and a Program Change event at the same time in the MPC sequencer?

How would you set that up? The only place I see where you can select MSB/LSB on the 2500 is in several control change events. I messed around with it a bit, but didn't find one the ESX responds to. Maybe that's what dark is talking about.

Is there someplace else an MSB/LSB message can be set?
