my first real problem

So heres what happens.

I load up any chopped sample file i make. But when i go to play the samples only 1 sound at a time per bank can be heard. i chopped up some drums off a record and after i layed down the hi hat the kick and snare didnt come through. i dont mean they were overpowered, they just dont play. also if i try to record over it nothing i hit will make a noise or record if its playn at the same time as the hi hats....

i skimmed through my book and dont know whats going on.. some one please help me out

so you sample a record?
assign the sample to a program and that plays back ok - yeah?
chop the sample and assign it to a new program - yeah?

Sounds like your Program is set to Mono instead of Poly.

so i recorded the sample in mono, saved it to the card i got from akai with the mpc, turned the akai off, turned it back on, loaded the sound off the flash card.

i use chop sho to cut it up, then i save it as a program.

then i start a new seq on track 1.

and i can lay down a single layer of the sample, but if any part of any of the samples overlaps it cuts it off completly..

if its mono then should i pan it a litle bit so its not in the same spot? and how so i change it to stery or poly? i didnt make it mono instead of poly on the seq or anything just the initial sample i used

The PROGRAM is most likely set to MONO. When it is set this way, one sample will cut off another sample, which is good for MONO instruments like some bass instruments. You have to set the PROGRAM to POLY.

I won't give you a step by step because it will be more fun for you to figure it out. Trust me, it will take you less than a minute just by looking in the PROGRAM MENU.

ill give that a shot. this all happened at like 12:30 lastnight so i was kind of out of it and didnt think of that.

so it would be good for bass but not for like drums and stuff, because of the hi hats and whatnot, right?

Well, MONO bass instruments should be....well, MONO. So of course you would want the program set to MONO. If there is an instrument that you want one note to cut off another note, than use MONO.

You can also set each sample as MONO or POLY.
