Problems Getting My MPC To Be The Slave

I can get my MPC to be the Master of Nuendo, but I am having problems getting it to be the slave. Here are some screen shots of how I have things set up. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

9-pin device, Time base, and Time base slave functions play no role into what you are trying to accomplish.

Make sure Midisport MIDI OUTB is connected to your MPCs MIDI INPUT1. Also make sure that Nuendo's Time Code Source is set to INTERNAL since it is the MASTER.

I have the exact same set-up. You should have no problems if your devices are connected properly.

have u gotten it to work? i have everything set up like u said but it's still not working.. really not sure wut is up...i feel that i am missing something really obvious....is there anything that i need to set up in nuendo'?

Yes, it works just fine on my system. But I don't mess with that Time Base settings. You have yours set to MTC but you are trying to sync via MIDI clock. Try making the change to see if it will help.

Also, make sure your cables are connected correctly.

I think what you want to be looking at is the "Internal Timecode" option you have set. That will ignore incoming MIDI Timing messages such as Clock and use the computers timing to sync itself.

If Nuendo is the Master...the Time Code Source needs to be set at Internal Time Code.

no still not working....my tempo on my mpc is staying at 86...if everything was working like it should, shouldn't the mpc's tempo change to EXT?

Yes. That is correct.

To sync the MPC to Nuendo is pretty straight forward..nothing complicated. You must be overlooking something either that or something is wrong with Nuendo or your MIDI interface.



You have 2 MIDI OUTs, A and B. Make sure that the right one is connected to the right INPUT of your MPC. Since you are having issues, connect both Midisports MIDI OUTS to both MIDI INPUTs of the MPC. In Nuendo, send Midi Clock to both MIDI OUTS by checking both boxes in Midi Clock destinations. Pull up Nuendo's transport and make sure that it is set to INTERNAL SYNC. SYNC should be greyed out with INT displayed. If SYNC is ORANGE and OFFLINE is displayed in ORANGE, that means Nuendo is set to SLAVE and not MASTER. TEMPO should also be greyed out. Setting the TEMPO on Nuendo's transport will control the MPCs TEMPO.

Try this out.

Also note that you can have Midi Clock Follows Project Position checked or unchecked. The MPC should still sync.


Also, what version of Nuendo do you have and what OS is your MPC running on?

nuendo 3 and i'm using jj latest OS....are you using jj's os?

I use the current version of Nuendo 3 and the latest Akai OS for serious work. It appears that you are using an older version of Nuendo. There has been recent upgrades, but this shouldn't be an issue though. If you are using the JJ OS and it doesn't work, switch to the Akai OS. However, I must add that when I tested the JJ OS, sync worked.

You must also be overlooking something as well. If you can't get it to work, your Nuendo and/or your MIDI interface may possibly have issues. You may have to re-install both..perhaps..

so midi sync does work with the akai os? is it just time code that is broken? i thought it was midi sync all together
