Using MPC to sequence Soft Synths via Cubase SX3..

Morning people

Got a bit bored today with my hardware synths & started fiddlin about with soft synths. Got my MPC2500 hooked up to PC running Cubase SX3.

My problem is that cubase is clearly recieving Midi signals from the MPC - the midi channel is jumping up with a signal but there's no audio coming out..
The audio only seems to come out of the soft synths when I play back midi sequenced from cubase..

I want to sequence the soft synths from the MPC, & only use cubase for automation... but this is impossible as I cant monitor what im playing in!

Anybody know what monitoring settings u need set on Cubase to be able to hear soft synths as you play them? Sorry im useless with software..

I know this isnt strictly an MPC problem but didnt know who else to ask..

I don't have cubase here at the moment , but i think you just have to
- Create a midi track
- set the input to the input where the mpc is coming in
- set the output to the VST instrument
- then either enable the record button or the monitor button
I think this should work , can't try it out now and it's been a while since i played soft-synths with my mpc.

Co-sign..yup that should work. Also, if you are going to use muliple VSTi on several tracks, you will have to setup Cubase's INPUT TRANSFORMER so each track will respond to only one MIDI channel.

shit, I had the same problem but manage to work it out but having problems with channels were do i find INPUT TRANSFORMER ?

OK RTFM and found it but still no joy.
what ever midi notes I lay down on channel 1. it will trigger any other channels I use I seem to be sending midi data to all channels even though I have selected individual channels on the mpc and the corresponding channel in Nuendo using input transfomer.

Okay spotted the mistake Tracks should be set to midi but it still does not work. Cod what are your settings ?

I cant find that input transformer thingy .. so i've been getting round the problem by assigning the inputs of all midi channels to an unused midi port, then if I want to control a particularchannel ive been swapping the input to the active midi input attached to my MPC/ CONTROLLER setup..

Would be nice to get Cubase to recognise different midi channels though

yeah, click on the INPUT TRANSFORMER and choose LOCAL for the midi channel you are using and add a new line and set FILTER TARGET to Channel, CONDITION to UnEqual and PARAMETER 1.

Then click ACTIVE MODULE 1 and MODE AS FILTER.

do this for each midi channel though the PARAMETER must correspond to each channel.

then u can control each channel without it playing the same thing on each one.

Just wondering why you people would want to sequence your vst-i's with the MPC. If you have Cubase, wouldn't it just be easier and less complicated to sequence your vst's within Cubase? Maybe use a cheap midi keyboard or use your MPC as a controller?

Well, you have the option of both.

I can record audio just fine with Nuendo/Cubase. However, MIDI seems to be a different story. I prefer to do that on the MPC.

But I am curious to learn the power of MIDI sequencing on a computer so if you have any tips, please share them. I just tried for hours to get my drums in Nuendo to knowck like they do with an MPC. I haven't mastered to Quantize functions of Nuendo/Cubase.
