Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

Hey, I just took my MPC and portable rig with me to a session and was having a sync issue with the spdif clock. I was using the 8 outs + stereo spdif on the 2500 going into a MOTU 828MkII with the MOTU digital clock synced to the MPC.

Everything works fine this way but it is a pain in the ass because it would actually be easier to have the MPC sync (digital clock) to the MOTU instead. This way when I had to shut the MPC off I wouldn't have to reset the sync on the MOTU every time. I checked the manual and the threads here but I wasn't able to find out if it's possible to set the MPC to receive digital clock from an external source. It looks like you can't do it, but if you can I'd love to know how.

Thanks.

I have no idea, but can you use the digi out and analogue outs at the same time?

@Mrock: the sync only works in the same direction as the audio signal. you should be able to sync the MPC to the MOTU, but only if you're recording the motu in the mpc.

@dablunt: both outputs are the same, and work at the same time, you cannot assign them separately.

Thanks for the info. I have other gear that can serve as a slave clock regardless of signal path but I guess it can't be done on the MPC. No biggie.

As for the outputs I'm using, I have 8 analog outs and the ST pair (via spdif, not analog) going into the MOTU. The only reason I'm mixing the analog and digital outputs is to have 10 simultaneous tracks recording on the MOTU which only has 8 analog line ins (the two front panel inputs are connected to pre's). A lot of times I just use the ST out while I'm writing and then I go back and split each individual channel out to mix.

Hi guys

Did either of you figure out if the MPC digital sync can be external? It's a (admittedly minor) pain to have to switch my MOTU interface between external and internal sync, depending on whether or not I am working with the MPC.

Thanks!

Steven.
