MPC 2500 UK Prices = Too High

I bought my 2500 for well under £800 with the ram expansion.

Today, it will cost around £900 without any ram. I remember earlier this year when i got mine, the price was £799 or lower depending on the retailer.

Notice how the MPC 4000 has vanished, and the 2500 has jumped up on price, even though its not worth the extra.

The reason for my rant, i know people who are looking to buy 2500 and are actually willing to pay todays high price, it makes you wonder.

Not really,

I got my 4000 in 2005 from DV for £1339 inc vat. That was the price everywhere.

The 4000 is now bumped up, but unavailable at the same time. Some stores may still honour the old price, coz they get it in lower than that anyway.

The 2500 is a con at £900. Numark are laughing.

While in general UK prices are an effing sham compared to the US (eg Dell 20" widescreen monitor, £200 off Dell.com, £300 off Dell's European site), I think the 2500 is quite fairly priced when you put it into context with its predecessors. Remember it's got all the expansions (filters and outs) of the 2000XL, plus card reader, plus hard drive and CD expansion capability, plus USB, plus more controls (4x Q-links), plus higher memory expansion capability.

If there's someone to blame for high MPC prices have a go at the government for stealth taxing us on everything aside from breathing, not Numark.

Dont get me wrong, i have nothing personal with Numark nor the 2500. Its not the perfect machine, but nothing ever is nowadays.

A good friend of mine is looking to purchase a 2500 (upgrading from his old mpc 2000). Like me, he witnessed a £799 price and was once offered the thing for £750 inc tax. He missed out, so that was that.

But he needed to sell his 2000 to part fund the 2500 back then, and he was too late, and prices went up. I bought mine for £780 inc vat and including the 128mb ram expansion from a well known UK music store in July.

Today my mate asked me to find some good prices for him on a 2500, and to be told £889 and even £999, from something that was 'over' £100 less a few months back. The 2500 is not a £100 or a £150 any better than what it was when i got mine.

My XL MCD was bought for £679 from DV last year, and i thought the 2500 was supposed to replace that model. Im just not sure about the price bump. Considering these units are made next to peanuts in large volumes out in China, the mark up must be huge.

You worry about 900 pounds? I wish I would get it for that over here...

As for Germany, well my friend you need to look at a place called Thomann. £900 with 3 years warranty and 30 day money back (for free in your country).

Oh well....my currency calculator says 968 Pounds, and that's only after they dropped prices a few weeks ago. I still paid 1070 pounds a year ago, while you got bargains at 800

mine was going to be 900 from my favourite record shop so i told them the sound control round the corner would do me it for 850 so the shop said 810 plus a 1000 for a fortnight until my 2500 arrived from the US

it has to be the introduction of the 500 that has pushed prices up . I got mine for £760 6 months ago

The intro of the mpc 500 may have been the case for the price bump, but i think its more to do with the 4000 not being available any more.

This has allowed Numark to position the mpc 2500 as thier 'so called' flagship for the time being, as well as being the only top choice if you need the newest and biggest mpc right now.

4000 still available in the UK

The 4k is not available at current, and i have a sneeky feeling its not going to be either.

Those links are standard dealer product listings, its means very little.

I was in DV yesterday and they have no problem getting hold of 4000, next time im in I will ask the guys if its stock they are holding or ordering from Akai
