Thats normal if you are using MTC or midi clock to sync MPC and software. Give yourself a bar (or at least a few seconds) at the start of your song to allow the two systems to sync up properly.

I though that was the case, but then is the timing going to be tight ?

Tracking into Cubase 3 on my PC used to be awful.

Ive given up using Midi clock to sync the MPC from the PC as the timing is shocking.

Ur better off using Midi Timecode:

Ive found the best way to do it is to also sync the clocks via SPDIF with the MPC as master. (even if ur not recording sounds via SPDIF). Ths way both ur computer and the MPC are working from the same time base. If you dont sync them you could end up with a situation like I had where the PC & MPC were running out by about 1/2 a beat after 4 minutes.... not nice. Whether ur sending Midi Timecode from the PC to the MPC or vice versa is doesnt matter.. you need to sync up the wordclocks. Cubase isnt really to be trusted where timing is concerned.

The SPDIF settings should be on ur soundcard set up options.

How do the pro studios track a MPC VIA MIDI ?

If ur taking ur stuff to a studio id suggest tracking it yourself then taking wav file stems along for the engineer to use by loading stems into their sytem, whichever they use.

If you still cant get good timing by tracking into the PC then you can get the MPC to record its own outputs.. this is handy as the resulting wav file will be totally sample accurate.. then export each seperate mixdown wav stem one by one from the MPC to ur PC by USB.. you may have to mark the start of each one with a click or something though so you can line them up again.

Exact same problem here!

I want to track to Nuendo 3 using my MPC as the master. I want to record my synths that are being fired off from the MPC, as well as the MPC's samples, spanning ten audio tracks into my soundcard. simple eh!?

Nuendo records my tracks with a 0.00.00.015 to 0.00.00.024 second lag!

Whether I lock my RME Fireface 800 to the MPC2500's clock using spdif or not makes no difference.

Is there anybody out there that gets a tighter lock??

oh yeah.... when I listen to the click in Nuendo and the track playing in my MPC, the lag is there, so it's not a recorded lag.

I'm using JJOS v5.03

Settings:
Sync Out: B (MASTER)
Mode: MIDI TIME CODE
Frame rate: 30 (or 25)

Send MMC:ON (or OFF)

Anybody??
Is this the best that the hardware and Nuendo we can achieve?

Much thanks

Might be that I'm just way of my case here, but it seems that you all get to tangled up in the midiworld allthough it's not necessary if you can't get it to function properly. Trackin down a beat with audio and a little persistance shouldn't be a problem.

- Hook the audio cables up to your fav daw...
- Assign the channels for each of the outputs of your mpc to you daw rec inputs (you'll need to assign the diff channels in your mpc before you do this)
- Set up the tempo in your daw to be the same as the beat/mpc and press rec...
- Then press play on your mpc...

It won't sync up perfectly with the beatmarkers unless your superhuman or you're on a lucky streak, but it's not a problem to rectify this later when all your channels are recorded...

Like I said, I might be missing the bigger picture here, but I'm just a sucker for finding solutions instead of blowing up the issue.

I decided for my first post to use the search feature and this topic looks most relevant:

I'm going through the process of recording MPC songs (arrangements of sequences) into Cubase. I have spent months building these songs/sequences/programs on the MPC and am now putting them into Cubase (as audio tracks) for overdubs and mix down.

I'm using a MOTU MIDI Express XT (USB) that allows for various different ways of MIDI routing, filtering, merging, etc. I'm also using a control surface (MCU) to control Cubase (SL3).

I'd like to setup a time-synchronization between Cubase and the MPC so that they "stay together". I got MMC to work so that I could control playback of the MPC with Cubase, but when I want to record the MPC audio into Cubase, it sends my MPC a MMC "record command" when all I want it to do is playback in-sync with Cubase.

Do I have to filter(mute) out the MMC record command in the MOTU, or do I use just MTC and disable MMC?
What device should be the master for MTC: Cubase, the MOTU, or the MPC?
What settings within the MPC\MIDI\Sync page should I use?

Basically, I want playback between Cubase (SL3) and the MPC to line-up, so that I can start recording overdubs and then possibly change the MPC program at sometime in the future, and rerecord back in (in sync of course)...

I've tried various permutations of settings b/t Cubase, the MOTU, and the MPC to get MMC to work and it almost works but I'm not sure if that's what I should be doing and if it can be solved in some other mannar that doesn't send my MPC into "record" mode. Skool me please.

Much thanks.
