Long Samples...

Hi,
I'm a french user of an MPC 2500, and I have a big problem with it.
Every time that I play a long sample in my sequence, like 3 or 4 bars, not matter the BPM, it cuts while playing when too much notes are played, like a beat with kick snare and hihat and a bass track. It's a really big problem, cause I can't do nothing really "elaborate" with my MPC because of this problem, I always have to resample in an old sampler, but it's not the way I wanna work.... I checked if it was a "poly" problem in the Program section, but nope, poly is set active...
I erased the HD, re-install the OS, no way, always this problem....

Did you make sure "mute groups" are all off? And that you didn't create a new program when using the chop shop feature?

No, it's not exactly what I said... I made some test, with and without RAM, and here it is : it cut the sample when I play "too fast" other pads....Like hihat a little bit "fast" (don't know how to say it...), the faster it goes the soone the long sample will cut... And it's not the ram, as I sais I've tested without it, so...

EDIT : It doesn't cut when I put this sample as an "audio track" thanks to the JJ OS .... I don't understand...

Please help, or at least explain me how to contact AKAI Support lol

I thought it was too many samples loaded and the MPC ran out of memory. Not enough memory to run that many samples - especially if a very long sample is failing.
But if the JJ OS runs this, then I would lean towards the settings on the MPC, but which ones? I dont know.

Can someone else help me please - can anyone remember how to bring up the screen that displays how much memory / disk space you have left?

You go into Trim mod, and use Window on a sample name, then you have "Free" on a F button

Hey, I think I understand your problem. I get this too. Its a big f**king problem with the one shot mode. When I play a long sample triggered from a pad with a seq running, the pad sample (with one shot enabled) cuts out too soon. I've noticed its like the other tracks in the seq are gateing the one shot sample and cutting it off before it should (usually cuts out on the snare hit from another track). However the sample will play fine when the seq is not running. This is a big problem because it is destroying creative ideas and that is most def not what the mpc is about.
I've got 128 MB and a 100G HD. Running the lastest akai OS. I think I might try the same thing but use the JJ OS and see if it solves it.

No matter which OS you have, always the same bug :s:s But the audiotrack in the JJos is one good idea

Are you sure it doesn't have anything to do with the way you chopped the sample? Or maybe you should chop the sample.

To me, I don't have to chop a bass sample that I play on a synth...

Great advice, man that is so obvious, I can just chop it up. It won't make any difference! I got so pissed off with the problem that I went blind for a second and couldn't see a straight forward way round the bug cheers

used to happen in the first week i had my mpc

absolutely chop your stuff up. that will take care of polyphony issues.
it's not a problem with the machine, it's experience

Just for my curiosity.... how many tracks are you using? Are they all DRUM or MIDI? And have you assigned the same PROGRAM to more than one TRACK?

I have never heard of this before thats all.
