Volumes F'd up

My volume is f*cked up now. For the last couple of months my volume nob has been a lil sticky. Not cause of any thing spilt but it just sticks from time time. The other day I was makin a beat and my volume kept droppin. When i went to turn it up it would crackle a bit then kick in at a really high volume. This some bullish cause I've never had a malfunction like this on any of my equipment. I have had the same asr 10 for 15 years with no hastle. I had a 2Kxl for many years previous with no prolems either. I take care of my sheit is what Im basically saying, so this really got me heated. Guess I gotta send this b*tch in...

Sounds like the POT has gone. I have heard that if you turn unit off, and then move the knob to MAX and then MIN and repeat a few times then sometimes the dust (which causes the crackle) may be dislogded.

Otherwise if you have to send the unit back I'd ask your reseller for a replacement unit in the meatime. I had to send mine back for something and it was away for 4 months!!!

Are you cables in good condition...I know its a long shot....

But I recently had a similar problem. I thought its was a busted channel on my digital mixer or the volume knob and/or outputs of my MPC. I would get bursts of audio low..high..low. It turned out to be just the cables. I was still a little pissed because I just bought that recording snake. But I don't have the receipt and can't even recall where I purchase the cables from....

It may not erase your frustrations..but things happen in the process of making electroincs. Sometimes you might get a bad unit. Recently my Fantom XR's LCD screen has started to flicker off and on. This was my latest synth purchase. I have had the XV5080 for years and no issues. My Protues 2000 was purchased second hand and its has way more years and wear/tear on it but the LCD is still perfect.

if it is past the warranty and you feel comfortable with a soldering iron, it'll cost you about 15 bones to fix yourself and you don't have to ship it away.

call up VST if you're in the states (i neglected to look) and ask em about the little encoder/pot that's under the volume knob. it'd be good to learn how to do so that you can do it again. really not that scary, just a little unnerving to see your machine in pieces - but remember that it was built so that that could happen.

yeah, it sounds like a soldering job. I know it's not a faulty cable cause it comes thru my head phone jack. As much as is sucks, it is comforting to hear it's not a common issue with folks on here. I just hate having to open up my machine so soon. I've only had it about 10 months.
