Some midi questions

Hi there,
I've been searching around and I can't find the answer to this question.

Is it possible to set up the mpc-2500 (I'm sure it is) so that each Track (or something with a specific program assigned) responds to a different midi input channel?

I've tried going through the Midi/Sync settings but that seems to just allow you to set the global midi input channel for the currently active track where as I would like to be able to have Track 1 on midi in channel 1A and Track 2 on midi in channel 3A.

More over what I'm trying to find out if I can achieve is having specific track respond to a specific midi channel but effectively route out to a different output channel:

E.g.
Track 1 | Pgm: Drums | midi in: 1a
Track 2 | Pgm: Sample | midi in 2a
Track 3 | midi out: 1a | midi in 3a
Track 3 | midi out: 1b | midi in 4a

allowing me to use 1 midi output on my computer to trigger 2 different programs on my mpc as well as 2 different modules connected to the midi out on my mpc. I'm about 80% sure this is possible but I can't work out how.

That doesn't quite cover it although the Soft Thru stuff closest I've found so far an I will probably be able to work with that.

However, what still baffles me is that it appears that you can only control the current "active track" via a midi input, I would've thought you would be able to control 1 track with 1 midi channel and another track with a differnt midi channel simultainiously (in the same way as you control 2 different patches with 2 different midi channels on a multitimbral synth).

MPCs are basically sequencers and not a multi-timbral synth. You would only use an external sequencer to trigger/sync to the MPC.
