Outboard Gear

I know that this is what most cats use to make their drums sound different/better/warmer/punchy etc. But what is a good one (EQ/mixer) to use/purchase that is relatively cheaper..?

Right now I sample and chop in the computer straight from my mixer through turntable, then dump into the 2500. Overall I like the sound (very clean), but I know it could be better.

a preamp is what you're looking for... and one's that will make a difference are not cheap... your're looking at a min $1k to get into the game... some suggestions (affordable) for drums are Great River and API (some will also suggest Vintech).
