On my sequencer I have events hitting at exactly the down beat.

but by the time the sound is played through reason, its like a sixteenth note late.

Is my system the culprit here?

I'm running a Celeron M, 1.4ghz with 1.5gb of ram

My midi interface is a Midisport 2x2

Keyboard -> MPC -> midisport -> PC

decrease the buffer size in reason and try it.

I tried that of course, but anything below something like 100ms, maybe even more, the sound doesn't even get sounded, it gets all skippy and truncated, like the sample is being cut in and out very quickly

You may need a better sound/card or MIDI interface....it could possibly be your computer as well.

I love the MIDI interface of my PCI card. I have an M-Audio Midisport 8x8 which produces great results as well.
