Hey I ve recognized that there is a small Timeshift when i layer my drumz or somethin on the mp2k5. I recognized too, that it sometimes depends on how i trigger the pad.
But allthough if the sequencer plays the 2 Layers, it allways triggers the sounds random. Like there would be a flange effect on it.
Akai Support told me its normal but damn it, it diddnt happen on the 2kXXL and the 3k
They alltohugh told me i should pitch the second layer but i dont want that...dont make sense in some of mine productions.
Do you have the same problems ?
...abd how do you layer your drumz with the 2k5 Machine ?
I dont want this Flange FX.

your layering 2 of the same sound right? u wont get rid of it completly. the two waves are not quite in sync and causing a phase affect. i used to just hit the pad a few times in resample mode and then cut the best one out.

hey manila...yeah thatz the problem...but i dont understand why it works on this way. I mean, why did Akai add a Layer function which doesnt layer the sound 100% tight. Dont know why they added that.
on the MP 200XL it worked without the Phase shifting.

Yo but thx for the help fam.

I don't see what the problem here is. It makes sense for you to alter one of the samples to fill out more freqs. Layering two of the same is pretty much the same as jacking the volume up. You won't have to pitch it several semitones so it's virtually inaudible for your ears. The object of doing this is to shift the waves in the sample so that they do not line up with eachother in a constant frequency relationship.
I don't know about you but for me, layering is to fill up the freq spectrum to obtain a fuller sound with more energy and power so to speak. Layer different drums and you're highly unlikly to have this problem.

hey nito yo..
i want to layer 2 seperate drum soundz letz call it BD1 and BD2 to fill da Spectrum.
f.E.:
i put BD1 on PAd A01, Layer1
i put BD2 on Pad A01, Layer2

The WAVForms are exactly trimmed how i need it so that when i pres pad a01
it sounds like i want it to sound but if i trigger it about 3 or 4 times somtimes it flanges a little bit.
And i guess thatz not what it should doo.
It soundz like the sequencer plays the layers with a small timeshift.
when i want to layer sounds i want them together and sound allways the same. Otherwise you loose a lot of control, cauze the sequencer plays these flanged shit sometimes on the 001.01.00 Drum, somimes on the 002.01.00 drum an even soomtimes on the 001.03.00 Drum.
and even if i layer BD1 with BD1 this effect comes up....
For me that soundz like a bug or somethin like that.

advice - don't layer the same sound, like someone said it's just like turning the volume up. layering isn't a method of making something louder, it's combining 2 samples because you like something in both.

also, this is just what i've heard, but apparently the flange did happen on older units too, but for some reason it's more pronounced in today's units.

solution - just use 2 different kicks. yes, you'll have to enter load again, but the result sounds better and plus you get the added bonus of layering experience, and the more you do that the better your technique gets. you start to be able to hear what something would sound like layered with another thing ahead of time.

even when i use 2 seperate drum sound it happens...hm so it seems that ther is no otherwy to layer sounds as to resample it ?

you are probably using 2 different drum sounds of very similar frequencies, or similar freqs that play at the same time.

i layer sounds constantly and i never have this issue - i really think it's just your choice of what you're layering...

Yeah what he said plus what the 2500 does is not the same as what the older MPC's did.
While the layers look cool initially they have a lot of limitation to the way they work and what youy can do with them.
The older MPC's and the 2500 w/ JJ OS allow you to multi-trigger pads, so you have a lot more settings and ability to mesh sounds together.
If you are going to try to use the layers on the 2500 pick and plan so that your sounds add up to the what you want without heavy overlaps.
In some cases you may even have to create notches in the freq to make them fit.
In other words you only want the part of each kick that's neccessary not for both of them to be playing wide in the spectrum.
The same is true with your kicks and bassline.

i wasnt really layering the same sound. i was having two pads trigger at the same time with both the same snare samples on it. one of the pads had quite a high decay on it thou thus giving me a harder hitting snare. every now and then it would phase out, so i used to resample.

i dont think ive evr used a piece of equipment/software that doesnt phase (oscillate) when u play two samples at the same time

i did same shit in fruity loops with the FPC Drumcomputer...
I had there no flange effect.
download the demo and check it out yourself !

Hmm Does the JJ Os Fix that Bug ?
Im a little bit interested in that one.
Although the global pgm edit make sense to me to buy the os...
but i dont want to **** up the gurantee of ma babe

It's not a bug it's Physics, the like freq are cancelling each other out.

Well maybe you I/O on your computer lacked the functional freq range for you to hear it in FL

sorry but i cant beleave that...because the flanged drum happens random
f.e.
i start a 2 bar loop
the first time the layered drum is played everythink is oaky
the second time too
but on the third time there is the flange effect
fourth time nothin
fifth time flange effect
an so on
....and its allways the same note in the sequence you know what im mean ?
hope my english is good enough to let you understand that problem.
