Please Help - Ram Problem

Hey mpc users,
I have just upgraded my RAM to the same specs as many of you have suggested. Every time I turn it on I am shown a message saying SODIMM error. Could this be a problem with the chosen ram or is it caused by maybe me installing incorrectly. Would it be better just to take the ram back and exchange for different brand. PLEASE HELP and thanks in advance

...try to reseat it. if it shows the error again i would swap it for another one. some so-dimms don´t work even if the claim to have the same specs. this is due to the organization of the chips. the mpc only reads the chips from one side of the pcb (original akai or mutec dimms only have chips on one side).
what you need is so-dimm 256mb (if you buy less you´ll also get less memory eg. 128mb results in 64mb usable) pc 100 (pc 133 works also in most cases and can be easier to find nowaddays).

so sodimm error means I have a faulty chip? The specs are exactly triple checked the same as is suggested and is definitly seated properly i have installed and re-installed many times. I think it should just be replaced unless anyone can give me a fix for sodimm error

...so-dimms are easy to damage with static electricity. if some one who is electrical charged touches the contacts it may lead to damage. and some of this ram modules are faulty from the beginning, just like a battery or a light bulb.
if you have the possibility to take your mpc to your dealer it might be easier to try other dimms at the store till one is working correctly.
if it works the mpc will come up with a screen saying "mpc 2500 xxx ram installed", then show your custom name if you have changed this and finally boot to the main screen as usual.

I bought (brand new) and installed Kingston ValueRAM 256MB 144-Pin SODIMM PC 133 (CL3) LOW PROFILE (KVR133X64SC3L/256) and it just hanged on the screen that says "MPC 2500 ( 128MB INSTALLED )".

I sent it back and got exactly the same RAM again and it works perfectly now!

Lesson: new RAM can be faulty

So the only thing i can do about it is to send it back huh?
