Freezes when making a new folder on save

Had the 2500 for about 6weeks now and its worked flawlessly but recently its started to freeze when creating a folder for saving a track into.

Is this likely to be a bug in the OS (Im running the latest official) or more likely to be a prob with the hardisk Im using ()?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I can't loose any more tracks as its starting to drive me mad!!!

Hiho, had this problem twice too. I had to format my harddisk last week again. Only this way it worked again...

Is there a workaround? Because its a killer when you've spent ages getting a beat just the way you want it!

2 options

1, make the new folder before making yoru tune
2, get an OS that doesn't have the new folder bug.

Damn. That actually just happened to me.. twice.. Im running the latest official OS too. Drove me crazy..

Does this occur only when creating a new folder to a hard drive? Because it's never happened to me.... and i don't have a hard drive either. Just curious.

I think for the most part this only happens when trying to create a new folder on a hard drive. That has happened to me twice so far and it sucks cause you have to back everything up on you PC, reformat the HD then copy everything back to the HD. What I have been doing since the second crash is creating the new folder on my computer by using USB. So instead of creating the new folder on the MPC, through USB I just create the new folder on my PC.
It really sucks that Akai hasn't fixed this problem yet cause a bug while saving is probably the worst bug there could be. Would you say that Akai is not going to come out with another update for the 2500? At first I thought it was taking so long because they wanted to make sure that the next update was bug free, but now it's been so long that I'm guessing that they are not going to fix this problem. Gonna have to grab that JJ OS

Allright y'all. Just happened atgain (thankfully, I tried it before making a beat this time).

Someone nice enough to walk me through exactly what I gotta do to fix it? If you can fix it without having to back up all your files, thatd be great.. but I dont even know how to install a different os (if that'll fix it).. Any help would be really appreciated.

I already posted this in another thread:

Akai told me not to use more than 8 signs for beat names.
And do not use special signs in your beat names.
Antonym´s tip to make the folder before seems to be a good way around it, because my MPC never froze, when I overwrote a project with "entire memory".
I often save to my memory card before I save to the harddisc, if it´s a completely new project.

also, what I did to save time is create 30 folders on my pc (named New Folder 01, New Folder 02, etc.), and just copy them over to the MPC whenever I have it hooked up via USB. when I'm saving a track I just rename the folder...then when I start to run out, I just do it again!

simple workaround...sucks to need workarounds for a $2,000 piece of hardware, but hey!

we used to do that create a bunch of new folders thing with the 1000, too. it does suck but at least it negates that really really nasty new folder bug - i lost a couple projects with that and almost lost my mind with them.

the nature of the bug is the worst, too - since you don't always just want to save overtop of an existing folder (old version of a beat u just worked on) you delete the old folder and then create a new one...only your machien freezes on the new folder creation.

this leaves you 1, without the old version of the beat, and 2, without being able to save the new version of the beat. ie, lost completely. it also sucks because even if you KNOW about the workaround, sometimes you're moving so fast that you just do it and create a new folder without remembering the bug - and boom, new folder freeze.

it's obscene that akai has not removed this bug from the current os's of their three most current mpcs. it's a widespread issue and there are NO excuses, especially no "special characters" or "too many subfolders" give me a break - how about fixing your code?

it's even more ridiculous because the new folder freeze/save over directory error bug was solved for the JJ os in a couple weeks, so it's not like it can't be done.

I had the same problem freezing up. Try the JJ OS. It has been stable for me so far.

unfortunately I trashed mine due to this bug, still havent decided what to get to replace it. death to akai

thanks guys for the replies... it does seem that this is a fairly fatal bug, I might have to give the JJ OS a try if thats the only way to actually make the unit usable!

It really is un-acceptable that an item of this price does not work as advertised!
