Corrupted files and folders

Ok. there has been a couple times when i get a corrupted folder in my hardrive somehow. when i go to load the file i get a bunch of #$#@(@*$# characters and it appears that all my files look like that! so, anyway when i connect my mpc via usb to my computer, i try and delete the files, but it wont let my do it. i have to move those files to a separate folder which i label "bad files" and put it somewhere else in the hardrive. has anyone else had these problems? why wont it let me erase those bad files?

this is part of the "new folder" and "directory error" bug - they're all tied together.

you get 'directory error' when you save overtop of something else. i think this is the root of the file corruptions and new folder bug. saaaaaame old thing, different day - the 2500 os is basically a cut and paste job from the mpc1000's 2.01, so i guess they just took the same saving technique

I have the same problem from time to time. This has caused many hours of lost work for me on numerous occasions. Very frustrating.

When I save something I usually shut off the MPC and then reload to make sure they aren't corrupt. Try backing up to your laptop HD and to the mpc compact flash. This way you have redudant copies.

There's nothing worse than showing up for your gig and getting a "wrong file" error when you go to load the stuff.

so, does anyone know if those corrupted files can be erased? ive tried to erase them via usb from my computer but it always says "files cant be deleted" or something like that? anyone know how to get them off my mpc's hardrive?

copy off the stuff that works, format, copy it all back again?

You could also try to delete via DOS. It has worked for me before. I've never had this problem though, but I've used that tech for other files messing up

Possibly the files are in use when you go to erase them. If that's the case you can try booting in SAFE MODE (F8 prior to the Windows XP screen).

Or if you have the WIN XP cd you can boot in recovery mode and use the NT kernal DOS mode to work with problem files.

I had the same problem! Then I made the switch and NEVER LOOKED BACK!
