Popping out a Sunken [Mode] Button...

I've heard of this happening on this site. My Mode button gave in. It still works but I need to get it out. Can anyone offer some detailed instructions?

alright. so i have no warranty to void. i opened it up and found out that the sunken button is due to a broken plastic mechanism that holds the button in place. so there's no "popping it out" in this case. i guess i'll have to order the part from vst.

what's vst? how long have you had your mpc before it busted?

yeh i had this happen to me.. not kool.. and when they did put in my new mode butn, it was all loosy juicy style.

Everything on my 2500 is still functioning. Knock on wood (knock, knock, knock).

If your ordering a button, why not order a bunch of them. I was thinking it would look cool if the 2500 had all clear buttons maybe? just a thought

vst is a audio repair company in pasadena, CA. they sell a lot of mpc parts. i had the mpc for 6 months, using it every day. i think they should have made the mode button as resilient as the tap temp button.

i ordered a lot of the buttons. it turns out they're really easy to replace. i have no warranty anyway so i just popped it open and stuck the new button in.

I agree..the mode button should be more robust like the tap button since it is used the most....until that happens, treat your MPCs with care because this can/will happen to any button over time.

nah. well, if you break the sensor below the button, then you might wanna consult a professional. but usually the problem is just the crappy plastic part that sits over the sensor. it takes about 11 screws to get your lid off, then the plastic buttons pinch out of their sockets (you'll understand the mechanism right away if you order one from vst). another upside to opening your machine up is dusting.

What makes you think the Tap Tempo button is more rugged? Just because it's larger?

Maybe he's gone bananas on it and its still there or something.

uhhhh. i just said above that i had opened up the machine. tap tempo is larger and the tabs mounting it are thicker. the point was that the [mode] button could be stronger.

Yes, I opened up the machine myself before, and I know what the buttons look like. And I doubt that they break due to fatigue, because they barely move when pressed. It's much more probable that it was a material or manufacturing fault, could have happened with every button.

yeah, i guess that it could happen with every button. at least they're easy to replace!
