Nope. Common issues;
1 - Which OS are you running?
2 - Do you have extra RAM?
1 - the latest hopefully
2 - and if so, try reseating? (carefully, discon power etc)

Thanks for the response dablunt;
1. Currently I am running the standard OS version 1.23
2. 64mb of RAM
The problem still persists after resetting. Also it doesn't matter if I record 3 seconds or 10 seconds of audio the system still shuts down and restarts.

how long you owned it?
try disconnecting the power for 10 secs.
then do the system reset.
install OS.
then another reset.
you could try an older os perhaps see if that fixes it. http://www.dabluntnet.plus.com/ if you click on start / audio you can download the older os's.
At what point does it reset, when you start the record / stop the record or assign to pad?

Ok guys...Problem solved and it was an easy solution thanks Dablunt for bringing it to my attention.
I tried re-installing the OS 1.23 version;
It worked the first time and then the problem persisted.
I went back a step to OS 1.22 version and
Problem solved.
