Newb Question Re: CDR M-25 and connections

I'm about to buy an MPC2500 and have a couple of questions, sorry if these have been asked before or if they are dumb questions, but I am a beginner to non-PC music making .

Can you sample from any music CD with the M-25 or is it only good for loading up akai format samples or samples from sample CDs?

Also I notice the 2500 has balanced outputs, does this mean I need to use balanced cables or are unbalanced cables still OK.

Basically I'll be hooking it up to a mixer, turntables, and a PC running Cubase Studio 4 and Reason 2.5

Unbalanced cables are okay. You won't get any benefit anyway if the other side isn't balanced as well.
