hi again,

I'm making a sequence with short and long samples, and i noticed that when i play the sequence the long samples (about 4 seconds) don't play entirely, I thought that was a problem of too many notes in the sequences but when i mute the shorts samples the 2 long samples still don't play entirely.
With a 90 bpm, on the track 1 i have a sample played during 4 bars and then repeating during the 4 other bars. On the track 2 i have a sample running the 8 bars.
It doesn't seems too heavy for the machine, doesn't it? So why can't i hear the two full samples playing together?

Please light my mind on this :(

are the samples too long for the bar? turn off loop and find out.

are you running the program(s) in POLY mode?

have you brought and installed the 256MB memory upgrade?

in the load screen does it tell you how much memory you have left?

light your mind?

yes i have enough memory and the samples aren't in loop mode (but i will check tonight for the poly mode) so the length of the samples doesn't change anything, no? i tried to put the sample in note on and i recorded pressing the pad all the long, but it's still the same, one bar after the start the sample stop. If i play it alone it works perfectly but not with another long sample at the same time...

you can blow it out now, thanks

Sont les longs Échantillons dans le même Programme ou sont ils dans de différents Programmes ?

Are the long Samples in the same Program or are they in different Programs?

In fact there is one drum loop of 4 bars in the track one and guitar notes on the track 2. It's not a programming or parameter problem because the drum loop play continually without the guitar notes. But as i set up the guitar notes on "one shot" i think the engine is running out of cpu when it's playing the 4 bar loop and all the guitar notes at the same time.

i'm a bit disappointed by the limitation of this machine due to the price i paid it!

(by the way, no the drum loop isn't in the same program that the guitar notes)

Many thanks anyway

well as i said Dablunt no the long one is in a different program. I remove the 8 bar sample to reduce the "cpu" (don't know how it's called on the mpc...) work. So basically, there is one program for the guitar and one for the drum in which i put the 4 bar drum sample.
If i set the guitar on "note on" the drum sample play "almost" entirely, that's why it's a bit strange, because i don't see here the complexity for the mpc to read that. I mean come on there is just a 4 bar sample and some guitar notes!

Anyway, i will use my computer to play the long sample and my mpc for the short events

Did any of this make any sense to anyone?
No way 2 loops chokes a 2500.
I think he is confusing different programs with different tracks.

Green River please try one more time to explain exactly what you are trying to do and how you are doing it.
Choose your words carefully as not to sound confusing and describe the setting you have for;
-the two samples (loops)
-the two programs you have them assigned to and the settings in each of those programs
-your track setting for the channels in the sequence that is playing each of the two programs

Again there is no reason any MPC ever made can't play 2 samples

ok,

so i have a program where i put my drum sounds like snares, kicks and so on. I added to this same program a drum loop (the 4 bar one).

Then i have a program with guitar sounds

All my samples are set on "one shot" and are in poly mode, even the 4bar
sample.

Now i have my sequence and i decided to make it in 8 bar.

On the first track i recorded the 4 bar drum loop by pressing two times on the pad, one time at 01,01,00 and one more at 05,01,00.

When i play it, everything is ok, it repeat itself normaly.

On the track two i have my guitar and there is at least one note on each 00,01,00 time, so it plays constantly. (this is where is the problem to me because there is too much note which are layered for the machine)

When i play the sequence the 2 track plays but the drum loop stop at approximatively 02,01,00 even if it's programmed to be played all the long.
then it play again at 05,01,00 but stop again one bar after

Hope this is clear for everyone
Thanks for your help

Well, thank you so much for this explanation, (a shame this thread was a bit diverted, but that's the joy of forums in general)

So as i guessed it's a "polyphony" limitation, damn! i can fix the thing to force the sounds stopping when they repeat, but it's so much beautiful when you have all these superpositions.

Thanks again to all of you for these clarifications

it's not a limitation, it's a user error. you have 32 voices. when a sample is in stereo and it doesn't need to be, it's using 2 voices when it could (should) only be using 1

likewise when a short sample is set to POLY (doesn't mute itself when played overtop each other) such as a ride

there's no reason for a ride NOT to be MONO

read the 2nd page of the link i posted - that should help a lot.

i read it, but the conceptors could have developped a more powerful processor to increase the number of voices to concurrence the computer. Obviously they did it on the 4000 but at what price!
And i agree you can fix it by a manipulation, in that sense it's a user error because i took too much proccessing than i was athorized to. sorry i'm a naughty producer...

Thanks.
Your original post made it sound like you were dealing with a 4-bar loop and a 8-bar loop.
Side Note:
somewhere along the way technology fooled man into the concept of stereo.
Always remember stereo is a delusive concept because a sound is directional and can only come from it's point of origin meaning one location.
Don't worry about sampling in stereo create a stereo sound field, since the whole concept of stero sound is man made.
Properly position sounds and expand or enhance them to give them a stereo or wider sound.
Then when you have something that really needs to be sampled stereo you have plenty of polyphony left.
