i was wonderin how i connect the mpc 2500 to turntable do i have to buy somethin like a mixer or can i hook it straight up to the mpc if so what cables do i need.

you need a mixer or a lot of times you can find a thrift store preamp with a phono input.

Actually you don't have to buy a mixer. The 2500 already has an amp in it. So you can hook up your turntable straight to the MP. But if you want to eq the signal before it goes to the mpc, then you will have to get a mixer to do that. I hope that answers your question.

actually, you're wrong. unless your turntable has a preamp built into it, you'll need a dj mixer or a standalone preamp in order to boost the turntable's signal to line level. the mpc2500 doesn't have a preamp.

...so what does the knob besides the volume knob do then?
ot: a turntable needs more than just preamplifiying it needs something called riaa equalisation which is decribed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIAA_equalization.

allow me to rephrase, the mpc2500 doesn't have a PHONO preamp. i believe the mpc4000 does though.

I thought this for a while.....then I bought a pre amp and with that I got a much better signal from my Turntable. Not sure how I got by all those months without a pre amp, lol.
