So how do you go about from listening to a piece of music to whacking out a full blown production?

Yes I know everyone will have slightly different way but what's your way?

sometimes I have an idea

or sometimes I get the idea when I hear a sample

Then I'll usually chop and create the melody, and then go w/ the drums (tuning and stuff)

then I might play some key's, or i'll play a little bass

It really depends I mean thats how I go every now and then but for me it mainly starts from either the melody, the drums, or the bass
