Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

Hello all,

I'm a newbie with the mpc 2500. My question is :

I have a 8 bar beat. lets call it beatB. I want it to start playing from bar 1, but when it gets to bar 7, I want it to loop bars 7, and 8. Im' able to get it to loop, but My problem is it won't start playing from bar 1. I was able to bo it on my mpc2000xl, but no luck here. If I hit play/start, it'll start playing from bar 7. If I hit "play" it'll start from bar 1, but if I'm playing a beat b4 it, say beat A, and just switch to beat B it'll start at bar 7. On the mpx2000xl, it started on bar 1, even when switchign from beat A, to Beat B.

Anyone know the solution to this problem?

That has nothing to do with his question, he just meant 2 different sequences.
shivanan2006, the 4k was the last MPC that the loop worked correctly on.
Works on the 60 through 4k correctly.
It seems that a major portion of the people using the 1k/2500 must not have used older MPC's or many of the old MPC feature.
They are happy with trying to use it like a groove box or laptop and don't miss many of the really functional features that were dropped by both Akai and JJ.
Still makes it really hard to accept that the 2500 is the MPC Flagship with all there missing aspects.

couldn't you just set it up in song mode?

loop doesn't work right on the 2500. doesn't work right in the JJ OS either.

It was a leading question, meant for him to be able to werk it out for himself.

Exactly!!

Its not really a problem, you just have to change your mindset. Change it good.

Copy the bars 7 and 8 to a new sequence (ahem!) and then join them in Song mode as the man Octain just said.

No it not that simple.
The Loop To function allows you to manipulate a single pattern differently
based on the elements of the sequence while it's playing, you would have to do more than just copy and convert.

It's not the same.

Now this is crazy you are telling us how to do something without even knowing what it is we are talking about ?

This is just like the thread about the missing feature for pitch with the tempo display.
Most of those who commented didn't know or understand the feature being talked about.

Thanks for all the sovereign,, I guess I just have to live with it. I use the 2500 for live gigs, and always used to go from one beat straight to the other without having to stop the band. I guess now I have to hit stop, change the beat, then hit play, not play/start. cuz before I would just change the beat, and it would start from top, not having to hit any "play" or "playstart".. sux..

but I'll live.. I'm happy with the overall of the machine.. I actually love it. Honestly with all the samples, and loops my band sounds 100% tighter. That was my aim. I want to mention I just added a vs-2480 to my studio.. and if anyone was interested, WOW!! Big sound difference from PC recording. and I had all top of the line equipment. I have my mackie 32x8 console just starring at me now, but no need for it.. I use it to rehearse..

Do you know the Next Sequence function?

Next sequence is not the same.
Next Sequence will allow you to change where a sequence ends by using the SUDDEN key, but the sequence playing next will still start from the undesired start point.

He said he wants to switch from one beat to another without having to stop. That's what Next Sequence does. He could split his 8 bar sequence into two, then switch between them and loop each as he likes. Just a suggestion, I think it would solve his problem.

Still not the same as having the Loop To function work properly, which is what he's after.
When using the MPC live the Next Seq function, Track Mute, Q-Link and Loop To functions are very important for realtime manipulation.
Unfortunately you need them all to function correctly or you lose some of the things that make playing the MPC an instrument instead of a sequencer.
That's also one of the reasons why the Continous Sample Track was implemented.
the things suggested by others in this thread will work if you are simply constructed a song but not for functional realtime manipulation on the fly.
