trying to midi 2500 and ensoniq eps classic

what's up. i did a search and found some info on midi with keyboards but i cant get my eps classic to play it's sounds on the mpc2500. i have the midi in of the mpc going into the midi out of the eps and the midi out (A) of the mpc into the midi in of the eps. i have track one set to midi. but i cant hear the sounds of the eps on the mpc pads. what am i doing wrong? anybody familiar with the eps that can give me a hand?
