Couple questions about the 2500

Just purchased a 2500 last week... However i've noticed that the 2500 straight out the box, is like buying a car without wheels. Im taking it into this place "Forat Electronics", they trick out MPC's so i've heard.

My question is, what do i need besides maxing the memory 128mb's do i need, or should i get for the 2500????

I'm thinking it's a waste of money to get the CD/DVD drive?

Any advice would help.

i use the cd drive when i got an ill sample that i have it only on cd
other than that it doesnt get any use
i got it for 25 buxs anyway, couldn't pass it up

You need to, or should, read the manual. lol Sorry dude you set yourself up for that one.

But really, don't even bother sending it to Forat for any upgrades. All hardware upgrades on the 2500 are super easy to install yourself, no point in paying someone to do it for you.

2500 out of the box is definitely not like a car without wheels. But blindly buying upgrades that you are relatively unsure about or don't even know if you need IS kinda like buying a car without knowing how to drive.

what upgrades are there besides cd drive and 128mb upgrade anyways??

anyways i got the memory and bought a 2g flash card, plus a grip of sounds last night. haven't had the time to mess around on it yet... but i think im set

128 ram is a good start an a 2gb flash is pretty much all you need... have you got the usb cable to hook up to your comp? that is a must if you aint got the jjos.. i record a trak into cooledit for example take the samps i want, save em into a folder an drag an drop it onto my cf card... load em into the mpc an chop em over 32 pads usually... the akai os is lame for trimmin so thas a quick way to get started.. that should be all you need to get goin... you'll need to get used to a bit of chopped sample maintainance to get your shit smooth but thas only suttin you can figure out... for a generally better sound flip the eq and compression on, on the master mix.

the new jjos is comin which is what im waitin for.. once i get that its no holds barred!.. jus spend a month on it most nights a week an you be upto speed in no time, watch as many youtube vids as possible for inspiration, i recommend boon doc to get you hyped.

This is the only action my dvd drive gets as well. But I hate that you have to import the ENTIRE song! Other than that, it's waste. I got mine free though.

^^^^ this is not true, you can sample from cd like you sample from any other source - just go to record; choose the cd drive and the track and then you can use the transport buttons to skip to any passage in the song you want to sample. maybe you have to adjust your sample time if the default ten seconds are too short, but you definately not have to import the whole song altough you can do so. the only thing different is that there are no meters when recording from cd.
