distortion when transposing MPC2500

I own a mpc2500 and everytime i try to change pitch or tune (transpose) a sample, the sample distorts or sounds broken. I figured if i sampled straight off a record player i could simply transpose before i record into the mpc, but is there any way to get around that, or is there a computer program that is good at transposing? i had the same problem on cubase! I need a point in the right direction. thanx in advance

how are you pitching them? in seq mode or program mode.

well i am still tryin to get familiar with this thing, i think im doin it in program mode, but i tried again today and when i go bakk to main screen, it doesnt save it. u got a suggestion on how to do it? thanx
