QUESTION FOR MPC 2000XL USERS WHO TURNED TO A MPC 2500

Hi everybody

these times i wonder if i could buy a 2500 i got a mpc 2000xl but im tired about those lack of features no usb,zip drive mute off only 2 pad by pad,timestrech is crap and it takes so much time to sample all the drums load them etc...

So if any 2500 users can tell me if they are actually happy with their new mp or just disapointed,if there are any sound diference (the mpc 2000xl sounds out just like it sounds in )

I didn't exactly changed from the 2000XL to the 2500, but I own both. I'd say the 2000XL is much more robust, both mechanically and software-wise. The only weak spots on the XL to my knowledge are the jog wheel encoder and maybe the screen. Everything else is solid.

Timestretch on the 2500 isn't better...some features have vanished altogether (Simult). You don't really need ChopShop. A plus is some of the onboard effects, filters and LFO. And don't worry about any sound differences...

Yes, the XL is a little slower, but put a SCSI harddrive on it, and sample loading and saving is just as easy.

It depends on what you want of course. I say if you're happy with the XL, you could save the money for other stuff.

mm im pretty cool with the 2000xl my only problem is loading drums and putting drums from my cpu to the mpc takes so much time this is the main thing i dont like about it

If you get a ZIP drive for your PC, and one on your MPC, it's not really complicated either.

don't use zip, get a card reader. way before akai came out with the 2000xl-mcd, i put a PC card reader in my 2000xl. i was able to use PC card hard drives, secure digital cards, compact flash cards.. almost anything. transfering to the PC was easy.

my SCSI zip was always a pain, and i know a lot of people lost data when trying to go from MPC to PC due to different formatting. their ZIP disks would get corrupted by the PC.

If you do it right, it's the cheapest and easiest way to transfer samples from the PC to the XL. For saving projects I use a SCSI harddrive. Card reader is nice, but expensive.

yes but a zip disk cost 10€ and zip drive are hard to find same as the disk

eBay. Plenty to find there. And cheaper than $150 for a card reader.

Just saying. Having a card reader is no reason to upgrade to a 2500.

i had bought an external scsi card reader for 15 bucks off of ebay, and i had a laptop which card readers were standard on back then. not sure why you'd think it's expensive.

i definitely don't think zips are the easiest way either. who hasn't heard that dreaded "click click click" and then your zip drive doesn't work? and i already mentioned the problem with pc's corrupting the zip disk.

That's why I said "if you know how to do it". Formatted on the PC you don't have that problem I think. And I was not talking about long-term storage either, just transferring from over here to over there, and then putting it on a harddrive, so no corrupted disk problem either.

Those SCSI card readers you talk of are those which people sell for like $150-200 on here, right? I have seen exactly one (in numbers 1) of those on ebay here so far. For a reasonable price that is. You're lucky you still got one for cheap.

Good luck. Get some information on exactly which model works on the MPC, and which don't, over in the 2000 forum. There are a couple threads on this already, just search the first few pages.

You'll probably be better off ordering one from VST service right away.
