synth to mpc

i havea nord lead running into my mpc through both the midi input and the record input. what i want is to record the sounds from the nord on the mpc in midi form, like i know how to use the nord as a midi controller for the mpc and vice versa, but i want the sound of the nord coming into the mpc, if that makes sense. if it doesnt let me know i will try to explain better.

^^^^ what he said... plus if you don´t have a mixer you can use the input thru function to hear the nord.
then choose midi instead of drum in the main page and set the midi channel for your track. the nord should be set to "local off".

i think you want to record your nord sound into the mpc AFTER you did a sequence with the nord. this is difficult. better use the direct record function - it is a bit tricky in the beginning but especially if you use a footswitch to start the recording it works really well.
set the cursor to the drum field in the main screen, press the window key and enable direct recording. Be careful to use an empty program on that track, let your drum sequence roll and hit record - play your performance live to your beat - stop the recording, hit a pad you want the sound to be on and after a restart of the sequence your nord sound (audio) is on a pad in your mpc! And it is automatically set to the right spot in your sequence.

the only thing akai could make better here is to leave the sequence running so one can make several direct recordings without having to stop the sequencer...

so i both a midi out and a midi in? als i have is one going out the nord into the mpc, and a 1/4 in cables from audio out of the nord in my mpc

to record the performance from the nord as midi data you need the cable from the nord midi out to the mpc midi in - but to playback the recorded midi sequence you need a cable from the mpc midi out to the nord midi in.
midi is only information no audio!!! and midi ports are one directional so it goes out of midi out on one machine to midi in on the other. to have both machines communicate you need both ways.
to hear what you play or record you need the audio cables to a mixer or to the mpc record in.

midi and audio seems confusing at first but if you understand the principles it is very easy.

normally the keys on your nord trigger the sound engine in the nord and you can hear sound. the keys also generate midi information when you hit them. this information goes out of the midi out of the nord. if you now record a sequence on the mpc the midi information is now in your mpc. but there is no audio from your nord in your mpc. so how you are gonna hear the nord sound during playback? now the midi out of your mpc comes into the game: the information you recorded earlier is now sent out of the mpc midi out and goes to the nord midi in - there the information triggers the sound engine like you would with the keys (on most keyboards you need to set the keyboard to local of if you use midi, so the key information is directly sent to the midi out without triggerin the sound engine to prevent double triggers. this is also why you only hear the nord if you choose the right midi channel on the mpc).

so i got both midi cables hooked up and the sound of both the mpc and the nord running into my mixer ,and still nothing. qwhen i press record it says waiting for midi play but it doesnt record

ohhh shit i figured it out, but now how do i record multiple patches, becuause whenever i try to record after already recording andchange the patch on the nord the previous patch changes
