MPC2500 swing/timing not like the MPC2000XL ...am I wrong ?

I'm not trying to get into a "What is better" discussion, but just drop my 2 pence. All due respect this is the MPC 2500 Thead, but I just purchased an MPC 2500 to replace my MPC 2000 XL and in my humble opinion minus the additional technological advancement features ( USB, Track recording, etc )... I just found the timing/swing more better (soulful, smooth) on the MPC 2000 XL. I think the converters on the MPC 2500 are better but the timing on the MPC 2500 sounds mechanical may be I'm missing something.

I just wana hear from MPC 2000 XL converts, who have made the transition to the MPC 2500... serious did you feel you made a compromise slightly when it came to the actual feel of the MPC 2500 but weighed it up against the actual features ? Or do you feel the MPC 2500 is exactly the same as the MPC 2000 XL with just additional features ?

I'm just thinking I may be missing something as I am reverting back to my MPC 2000 XL, I'm all open for change but I feel I would be compromising.

Thanks man, I thought I was going mad... well since I prefer the MPC 2000 XL swing/timing looks like I'll be going back to my MPC 2000 XL, shame cos I loved all those extra MPC 2500 features. Its just the groove is more important to me as I can do all the other stuff in Logic. But it would be great to hear from more users on this issue, but I will search for that old thread.

never used the old 2000, but from what i remember (and thats rarely anything) most peps preffered the timing on the 2000 over the 2500.

being different does not mean being bad - maybe you just can´t use the exact same settings like on the mpc2000xl to get the same swing?
the mpc2500 has more options in the t.c. menu, why not mess around with these till you get the desired results?
i use the t.c. very rarely because i get better results with t.c. off and using double tempo to double the sequencers resolution per bar. if you just get it swinging if the machine does it for you than you have to adjust to the new machines capabilities, or, as you said, go back to the machine you are used to.
every new toy has some sort of learning curve... so don´t look at the numbers to hard and start using your ears.

plus grid edit lets you move pads the teeniest bit. that can give you a boot knockin swing WOOOOOOOOOO LORDY!!

While I never touched the MPC 1000.....you will find differences in the swing/timing among all MPC models (MPC 2000, 2000XL, 2500, 3000, and 4000). Personally, I like the swing/timing of the MPC 2000 the best but have opted for the MPC 2500 because of the additional features.

you've got to check the emperors new swing timing thats the best of all.

i just swapped my mpc 2000 xl for a 2500 and besides the new having lots of new features i am not too happy.

1 - the swing is different. i thought this was just my opinion now i am glad i am not the only one.
2 - i dont like the way the pads respond in comparison to my xl
3 - the converters may be newer but they tend to sound kind of harsh in the highs, bottom end is ok.
4 - the data wheel...

i thought about getting jj os but i think i will sell the 2500 again and go straight for a classic 3000...

Dude, I feel you most on point number 1... "the Swing aint the same" however before I bought it folks where talking like the MPC2500 was exactly the same as the MPC 2000 XL with additional features, I was sadly disapointed. But I didn't start this thead to have a moan, rather just to make people aware that if you are upgrading ( and I say that loosely ) be aware that the MPC 2500 does not have the same swing we are used to.

With regards to your other points, I can live with thoses... anyway I sold the MPC 2500 last night... it was a shame to see it go but it didnt have the swing/timing I'm used to... and like yourself it has got me wondering about the MPC 3000 ...its just I dont believe the MPC 3000 can take a CF Card reader.

you can put a CF card reader in the 3000, it needs to be pcd-25 which is kind of hard to get nowadays. i think i will still go for the 3k....

ive got both...they are definitely different....but they are good for different types of beats....if you want an old school type of thing the 2000xl gets that feel a little easier....but you can achieve that with the 2500 if you fvck with it...just gotta tweak the swing % a little different. the 2500 is better for more modern sounding beats though....it sounds smoother to me. i like them both...they are each good for different applications
