Sad day.....

Well, my jog wheel is going out and I need to get it fixed. I still have my Guitar Center PG on it and i got the info and it needs to be shipped out UPS to get fixed.... :( :( :( I was just wondering, should i take out my HARD DRIVE and then send it out or just keep it in? has anyone had to use Guitar center performance guarantee? It will be a sad few weeks with the MPC....maybe i'll catch up on my reading

take out your hard drive if you want, it's your choice. they are fixing the jog wheel correct. has nothing to do with the hard drive.

I'd take out the hard drive to make sure nobody steals your samples...

I would take it out just to make sure it doesn't get damaged during transport. And they don't forget to switch it over in case they decide to send you a new unit...

Would the machine still boot up without it though? They may want to switch it on to make sure it's working ok.

yeah, it's the jog wheel. i'm just paranoid something might happen. i mean, it's just the jog wheel, im sure they wont have to replace the whole unit. but has anyone had to send their mpc to get fixed?

One time I quite literally had to meet a guy in a dark alley (MPC in hand) so I could get a backstreet repair done on the cheap! Now that was worrying, although it came back in full working order thankfully. :)

Just take it out to be on the safe side. Damage during transport, as mentioned above, would be my worry.

I almost said that you sounded "paranoid" ....lol...

Nothing wrong with keeping it in your hands though.

but it's a laptop hard drive :idea: :lol:

imagine shock those hard drives expierience already while one is banging on the pads

besides laptops are made to be on the move, I'm assuming they gotta meet certain criteria and made more durable than your standard destkop HDD

hard disk is most volunerable to damge when it's still spinning and dropped, which would probably result in few bad sectors, worst case unusable. bad sectors can be taken care of by defragmenting.

that's sounds about right. im just paranoid that "something" might happen during transport or if they had to switch my unit out cuz they couldnt fix it that i wouldnt get my hard drive back.

I realize that. Still you don't know what they do with the unit in their workshop.
And I just say that would worry me more than that they "steal my samples".

If you are really afraid of either the damage or the jackingof samples then simply backup your hd drive and remove the info on it prior to sending it, then restore it when it comes back.
The thought of removing the drive instead of backing it up and reformatting it to a blank just seems like bad advice.
