There seems to be a lot of posts about things like jog wheels needing fixed.

Is the quality and durability of the 2500 poor compared to my current 2000xl?

Would it be a mistake to upgrade?

Go ahead and get the 2500, The extra features are definately worth it. My friend who I had sold my 2000xl to had brought it over about a month a go and it's about 8 years old, the Jog Dial felt like butter compared to the 2500, (The jog dial is definately better on the 2000xl). The 2500 feels like CRAP! Just be gentle with it and you should be okay.
I definately would not trade my 2500 for the 2000xl But honestly to me the 2000xl is the all-time classic of MPC's If I found one that was in immaculate condition and going for a good price I would probably pick it up!

The jog wheel is the ONLY downside. (owned both the 2000xl and now 2500)
But you'll get used to it. Also it's more right-handed friendly. (it's on the right side, no pun intended)

The internal HD, CF card, DVDROM, JJOS, extra Q-links, usb, 8-outputs standard, etc, outweigh the jogwheel 'issue' in my opinion.

It's a $15 replacement part if anything. The 2500 feels a bit heavier, and solid to me.

I'd say it's worth upgrading. As in this case, it is an upgrade in MPC's.
