I have had the 2000 for ten years and recently switched to the 2500. I did prefer the sound of the 2000 but could not for my life point out what the difference was. I am now getting used to the sound of the 2500. I don't know, maybe it's just psychological.

mpc60 and mpc5000 sound different than each other, years and years of electronic parts differ between them inside.

It's sounds different, doesn't mean bad, just different.

Any one know which sampler (doesnt have to be an mpc) sounds most neutral? To my ears all of the mpcs colour the sounds. In the original mix i can pretty much always tell the difference between mpc 1000 drum and 2000xl drums for example. The 1000 and 2500 seem to do something particular to the sound, dunno what it is but i can always hear it, like additional "pressure" behind the hits dunno how to decribe it - probably an attempt to make the sounds more punchy. To me computers sound most true to the original (whatever that is). The 4000 also sounds really uncouloured to my ears, unfortunately unnafordable.

Any others? It would be cool to get a sampler that sounded really neutral (what you put in is what you get out) that you good plug into an effects box or something and resample back in. any suggestions?

I understand your quest, but really I'd just get what I could afford and start creating.
99.99% of people on the other end listening will not know the difference!

There are other things in your signal chain that would make this difference. Converters, etc.
