So in my recent run for cables, I toyed with an mv 88....did not like it at all. The pads feel hollow, like theyre rubber coated buttons. it was wierd. Not to mention thise ridiculous load times. How can anybody sit thru 48 seconds to find out that that wasnt the piano you wanted. And i got to toy with a 4k, but it had a squeeky fan that was driving me nuts. I see why it is a legacy tho, as i was sequencing in under five minutes. Ive had a 1000 before but my fat fingers would always hit menu and something wrong. I tried the 500, but could not figure out anything with the kitchen timer display. Ive seen incredible deals on craigslist for 2000's and 2000 xl's, but i am not tech savvy enough to repair them. Nor am i as patient. I wouldn't know where to start with a crummy transister. And no 23 year old on probation has 2300 dollars to throw into a 5000, which is probably as complicated as the MV. I was lost, and i thaught i had lost hope. I will never find the machine that fits me just right, i thaught. Evrything i had tried has been a huge dissapointment. Then i saw it, a lonely demo model mpc 2500 with missing knob and blackened pads. I thaught to myself, this is nuakai (hence, my mpc was the red and blue, first run.) Those crazy basterds on mpc-forums.com love akai, but say anything built after 2004 is crap and Roger Linn is a god.
But then there is jj, and he's like an arc angel, so i wonder. I walked with a hesitant stride, not knowing if this was the machine i should save for. The guys at guitar center had seen me fiddling with their machines for close to four hours, and all had done was stop in to buy cables. There i am, me and this beaten ravaged black beauty. She had been used and around the block. No telling how many people have touched her, stuck things inside her, pressed her buttons, twisted her encoders with too much force. She was visually abused. I reached to her hind area, hoping she would accept me turning her on, and not stay dimlit and fIzzy like most abused buety's. I thrust my finger to click, and to my syrpride she lit up greener than a clover on saint patty's day. I accesed her menu, and set her program, expecting that she would freeze up since we got to the next level. She loaded her wonderful screams of snare and kickdrum, and her melodious orgasmic patch phrases faster than the mv turned its screen on. I touched her soft rubber skin, and i heard.... nothing. But wait, the moniter was off!, so i turned on he speaker and taped her gray scale velvet, and it was amazing! Unlike the mv, which would sound after you touched a pad, she screamed as if she was enjoying it more than I. She let me record he love we made, and let me into her deepest secrets easil and on time. I loved it, and i want it, that exact one. With the missing rec gain knob and fader stick. It had so much character and sass. I knew then, a 2500 was the mpc for me.
