MPC 500/1000 vs. MPC 2000/2000XL Please Help!!!

I recently purchased an MPC 500 and after using it for a few months I am starting to feel its limitations in terms of the limited tracks and effects that it can use. Would it make sense to upgrade to an MPC 1000 or could I essentially do the same thing with the 500 that I could with the 1000 when I track it out on Pro Tools?

Also, I have used the 2000 a couple times and I really like its classic sound and swing. I've seen both a 2000 and a 2000xl for sale and I'm trying to decide if one of those would be better than the 1000. I've heard the screens and pads break real easily on those which is why I am hesitant.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have an MPC 2000Xl myself and love it. Don't know too much about the 500, but trust me the pads and screens on the 2000 and 2000xl's don't break that easily. I've had 3 2000XL's and never had a problem with the pads or screens. I'm sure you could do the same thing with the 500 that you can with the 1000 tracking it through pro tools. Not sure of the features they may have cut from the 500 compared to the 1000. Have you checked out the 500 Tutorial from this site? The tutorials for these machines are fantastic, and will have you learning lots of new techniques and tricks you may have not known. Hope this helped. Good luck.

had a 2000 classic for many years. Loved it but had to replace the screen after a few years. found it was a pain to gig with because of its largeness. Also, keeping all by beats on floppy disks or flash cards connecting through a SCSI card reader was a total pain. I upgraded to 1K and am happy I did. The slightly smaller pads annoyed me a little at first, but I got used to it. I really dig the USB connectivity, and the hard drive I had installed is def working in my favor. I certainly haven't noticed any difference in sound or swing from the 2K to the 1K, but I have found that the 1K is more MIDI friendly if you're interested in connecting multi-timbral sound modules down the line.

The 1000 offers more features. When u can get ur hands on a mpc which already has the upgraded pads installed ur golden.

2000/2000xl is sturdier, built to last longer then the 1000. Problems with the 2k/2kxl's are the dying screens.
1000 has better storage options,(unless u get a 2k/2kxl with a multi card reader) and a usb port for back up and importing samples.

U already said that u like the swing and sound of the 2k more then the 500/1000.

So it all depends on what ur priorities are.

If I was smart enough, I would have gotten the 1000 with the latest JJOS. I've saw them run and man how sweet they are. But I bought the 500 because the seller said the 1000 and the 500 are basically the same and the 500 was cheaper...Bullsh!t.

Yep, not even close. That 1k with jj on it is almost like having a baby 4k on your hand.
