Ren vs Studio? (Should I down grade?)

Ive had the Ren for over a month now, and like most people Ive ran into a series of bugs and there are feautures that Im really missing. Been waiting for the 1.3 upgrade since I bought it to see if AKAI really mean business with the Ren...

One of my main issues is that You cant use the software without the hardware. Im travelling to Europe a few times a year, and Im on the go all the time. Basically I was hoping for AKAI to let you use the software with a USB dongle but havent heard any news about that. Does anybody know anything about this? If not, I might have to return the Ren and get the studio so I can bring it with me. But I just think it feels retarded to even carry around the MPC Studio to every possible meeting or networking oppertunity you may end up in, just so you can make some tweeks or play some ideas that are not 100% finished. To me thats one of the main reasons I started using software, because you dont necessarily have to be in the studio to lay down some ideas etc.

So I have a question to the few people here that have the Ren AND the studio (or people that have used both)...

Is the soundcard, Vintage modes, Flip screen, The Wub, the Noise and extra knobs worth the extra $700?

I really want to keep this thing, but they need to make a dongle for it!!

Is there any significant sound quality differences between the 2?

Only have a few days to return it to guitar center...

So the demo runs in stand alone mode but the paid product doesn't?

Yeah, you cant run the software with out the MPC plugged in to your computer...

The soundcard is worth it to be honest. I can't play my samples out on the Studio without some of the samples overlapping due to latency issues.. such a piss off tbh

The software for the Ren/Studio is exactly the same. If you are having issues with the Studio's latency, it is due to your sound card/audio interface. The same is pretty much true for any software that you use.

Invest in a good audio interface that has good drivers. But note that the price of the Studio and a quality 2 to 4 channel audio interface is about the same price as the Ren.

Damn. Is it that bad?

I have an apogee Duet 2 so I should be good...? I just wish I could run the software stand alone...

People can wish all they like, standalone software was never part of the deal, never advertised, never promised. It's not going to happen for very obvious commercial reasons.

Except that Maschine lets you run the software by itself and yet it's one of NI's biggest commercial successes ever. Akai obviously didn't have enough respect for its potential customers to let them do the same.

Using Maschine's software by itself is all the intuitive.

When editing the sound shaping parameters of a pad, you have to click through 6 pages. It is software, why not display all the params on one screen? The samething applies with sample editing.

I am considering buying either an MPC Studio or Ren. I already have a 2500 that I'm definitely keeping, I just want to explore the capabilities of working with the software products.

What can Ren do that Studio can't?

If I already have a 2500, would everyone recommend the Studio, or go all out and get the Ren?

have you checked specs list on akaipro website how is your 2500 relevant to this decision making

Same software. Get the Studio if you have a nice audio interface already and on a tighter budget.

I have the Ren for home use and the Studio for travel.

I checked the specs list, but there's an obvious difference in reading specs and actually getting your hands on something and working with it. When you're working you hit road blocks you may not pick up by reading the specs.

The 2500 is relevant because (aside from software use) if the ren performs similar with the 2500, then the studio is the right buy for me.
