Should I keep my Maschine or buy the REN?

I bought Maschine 1.0 in '09 and still have it. I won't get rid of it because like it or not, love it or hate it, it's an extremely valuable, capable and powerful music production tool. And at the end of the day, isn't the music what it's all about anyway? Maschine can be used as a VST inside of the Ren. The Ren can be used as a VST inside of Maschine. WTF? I'm down with Maschine but prefer the Ren's workflow and though I've encountered a few glitches here and there, I haven't had NEARLY as many issues with it as some of my fellow forum brothers but then again, I'm not as good and haven't used an MPC as long as some of them either. You can have the best of both worlds and not have to choose should you keep Maschine. If I were you, as a recording engineer, I'd ADD to my arsenal and would not sell it. My 2 cents. :smoker:

Couldn't agree more. There's such a thing as overkill, but if you can afford to rock both why not? Seems no different than Xbox/PS3 to me. You can be fine with either, but it's great to have both. With the $ you could get for Maschine why not keep it? It's not like it will put a grand or two back in your pocket like vintage gear and synth dilemmas as far as potentially selling.

But somehow your 2 cents and people agreeing with it will likely be seen as controversial around here....

I like your opinion on things. But I was selling the Maschine because any little bit of money from that can go to the mpc. It might not be a lot but something is better than nothing. But I really understand what you mean about adding to my arsenal.

I feel that side of it too Ibrown1592. I'm eying up a couple thing over here and weighing how much I use them against getting $ for bigger ticket stuff. I understand raising funds for a particular piece may not present "both" as a viable option.

LOL. Yeah you're probably right but to be honest, I could give a damn about how controversial others may deem my opinion to be. I gave 12 years of my life in service to this country to preserve among other things, the right for us all to express our opinions, no matter how uninformed or lopsided they may be. :lol:

I DEFINITELY feel you about the money situation my man. It may be all about the music at the end of the day but if you don't have the loot for life's "other" little things, then that day is going to be a very long one. Bottom line... research your desired gear, spend wisely, learn your weapons and enjoy making YOUR music. :smoker:

I appreciate everybody's view on the subject. Anyone have an answer to the question about the browser? I heard the samples inside the browser were unorganized. Like it was hard to find stuff where in Maschine it's pretty simple. Anyone care to chime in about that?

I own both.

The Maschine browser is LEAGUES ahead of the MPC Ren's. It's exactly what a browser SHOULD be and more.

The Ren browser has 5 'shortcuts' to user locations that don't 'stick'. You can have default locations set to these but the problem is it always reverts to the 'last viewed' location.

You have 5 file filters types to choose from (show only sounds, programs etc). You can also auto-play samples & change the volume of auditioned samples. That pretty much sums it up.

Now with Maschine (deep breath!)
>You can have unlimited 'Favorite' locations
>You can tag each and every sample with pre-made or user tags if necessary
>The browser is much more intuitive to use from the hardware (compared to the Ren imo)
>You can import not only groups (programs) but also patterns attached to them
>You can auto-load & replace samples in context with a beat (ie audition different snares as your songs play)
>You can search by name or tag
>Included VST instruments are fully integrated with the browser (eg you can choose Massive presets direct from the browser (search & tags apply)
>The browser gives direct access to your Hard Drive, Projects (songs), Groups (kits), Sounds, Patterns, Instruments (VST instruments), FX (Plug-Ins) and Individual Samples.
>Oh and yeh, it can auto-play and has a volume control for that too!

I think the Maschine browser is one of the best I've ever used. Then again, some people like the 'simple' nature of the Ren browser. Find a file, load it, done! Me? I like being in FULL control of EVERY sound on my system. Mashine allows this.

Option 3: pick up a copy of Fxpansion's Geist and control it from you Maschine! Geist has great sound and sequencer "feel", nice FX, slicing/chopping, a much better song mode than maschine, better time stretching to name a few. Its regularly on sale for $99 if you search the net which is a bargain!

I couldn't really groove with maschines software either. Never had the chance to really jam an MPC much myself.
