Hey guys,
spent the last few days reading a million threads on what mpc to buy for my needs.
Ive singled it down to either a 1000 with JJ or lash out and get a 2500 with JJ and sell a few bits of kit i own.
What i want to do is use the mpc live to play out. I need some advise on what to look for.
Currently i use a maschine on a craptop however its small failures have led me to look into a switching to an mpc. I think (and hope) my workflow will remain the same.
How i make beats...
I constantly buy and sell synths. what ill do is make a series of samples of the synths playing a long C note which ill then load into a pad in maschine, there i can tweak, eq, filter etc etc to get the sounds im after and if im not digging the synth i offload it. I pretty much rape everything through filters, its important, they will get a workout.
I sequence my songs in maschine at this point in time. I also do all my beat work in maschine too. I make electronic music, i work under a few different names for different projects so sometimes ill be making jungle, othertimes techno and house other times ambient and experimental.
Maschine can comfortably let me do everything i need to however the one thing i cant belive it cant do it let me play live, plus using a computer is a drag.. Live as in a song mode.. Im sure the update will come however i want to get out of the computer
Thats where my homeboy mpc comes into play.
So what i would like to do is play live sets of techno and ambient with an mpc as my main man. I would need to be able to load my samples of different synths into it so id be using it as a sound module as such. Plus running most drums out of the mpc. Ill be playing the synth sounds with a external controller in the studio but Live in song mode ill be i guess using mutes and the q link for filter movements.
Ill be using an additional 2 or 3 other hardware units via sync (707 + mfb 522) and also id like to sequence my dx100 through midi with the mpc. Being able to control more is going to be better especially with a growing studio. i have some hardware fx too from guitar pedals to rack gear that id use through the mixer as sends or straight out of the mpc through one channel i guess..
My question is will the 1000 with JJOS be able to handle a liveset, approx 1 hour with my needs.
Are the fx on the 1000 good enough for productions as my tunes can be quite over produced (jungle/dnb anyways). I do also use logic which if i had to i can get deep into producing. Im more concerned that i can replace my maschine with an MPC and still keep the songs busy (enough ram and memory to play them). I need to be able to then play them in song mode also
Do i need a 2500, the extra outputs and fx probably means i wont outgrow it but is the ram and memory going to be enough to keep me going? Are the extra fx on the 2500 worth it. The size of the 1000 is a huge bonus for carrying around to gigs
a few examples of the kinda sets id be taking inspiration from

heres my soundcloud if anyone wants to hear the sounds im going for..
look forward to being a part of the community with my (hopefully) new MPC. there are some great producers on here
and a big thanks to anyone who can help out. i know its been covered a million times but no one makes music the same ya know..
Im sure ill have more questions soon
