Z8 + MPC2500 or MPC4000?

Sup guys, hate to bore you with yet another "Which should I buy question", but I'm really just looking for personal preferences...

Already had the MPC4000 before and unfortunately lost 90% of my studio during Hurricane Katrina...

Now I have the funds to reconsider some things and came across someone selling a Z8 for $399 & MPC2500 for $1095...

One of the main MPC4000 features I would possibly miss out on is the 996ppq resolution all others would be covered having the Z8 Engine...

I was also still considering just purchasing the Z8 and MPC4K just to leave the sampler stuff separate, instead of having it integrated...

Of course it's nice to kill 2 birds with one stone though

Oh well, decisions, decisions...

hey man where do u find a z8? theres like no place that carrys it well not the stores that i know atleast. musician friend and guitar center btw if that z8 u cant afford i found the z4, check this out. i dont know why its so cheap but its worth lookn out at. ya for 599 its a great deal

Those are awesome used prices for both units, you could easily sell them for more if they don't work for you. I've been using a 2k for years and recently bought a Z4 because you can get them so damn cheap. As you said, you lose the 996ppq, but also have to also consider the convenience of the much larger screen and having one disk to load/save everything from. There are also some nice sequencer tools on the 4k that go well with the big screen. You can still pull off 95% of the features with that combo, its just more work to set up. I'm used to the small screen on the MPC, but it sucks on the Z (you can use ak.sys though). If money is an issue, I'd say go for it. But if you can find a deal on the 4k, the workflow is a bit smoother plus a few extra tricks.

I don't see a point in the 4k and the z8, unless you need the extra voices, memory, outs, or a seperate portable unit.

naugie: they stopped making the Zs a long time ago. Anything you find now is old stock or used. Z4s are easier to come by and can be found very cheap.

Appreciate the response Smooth, your assessment definitely makes sense... Yeah, the only reason I would keep the Z8, if I purchased the 4K, is to dedicate the sampler to one and sequence on the other... The price for the Z8 was just to nice to pass up on, know what I'm say'in...

4k ! convinent, one HD, reduce the number of pages by 50% (the entire Z8engine is laid out in 4pages all with instant access via softkeys) all in all just a faster workflow and once you start hanging in the grid edit youll wonder how you made it without it.. the only real advantage with Z&2.5 is more outs and there are better ways to get more outs if you need them..like old emus or Daws w good D/A box...

Makes sense glide, I think I'll just take the all in one solution by grabbing the 4K, and pass on gettin the Z8...
