The MV-8000/8800 is top notch.Don't be fooled by the myth of a big learning curve.I went from an MPC 1000 to an MV-8000 with NO problems.
Roland has an MPC-MV translation guide for those who are stuck on MPC terminolgy.

I think the MPC concept is much easier and hassle free, especially for pattern based work.
IMO the MV has a process involved to do the most simplest things that an mpc can do in a button push or two. MV - Open project...Zzz...Zzz...press F button...Zzz...Zzz...choose a pattern...and so on. Too many fancy menus.
MPC 4000 - hit Load, select sample 'Prg', press 'Do it', done!!!.
To save, press 'Save' and select folder and press Do it...done.
The worse thing about the MV 8800 has to be the fact that it's a re packaged MV8000. Still 480 ppqn, only 16bit, and 40gb hardrive.

mjames you know what?I still get chills just thinking about a year ago i almost purchased a 4000 over an MV.Whew lol that would have been a huge mistake for me.

Why is it that we see a huge price drop on Roland gear everytime???
I have seen MV's go for like £550 second hand. Try that with an MPC 4000.
The fact is, Roland MVs have crap timing, actually 'Crippled' is a better word.
Don't believe the hype, the MV is for the all in one production folks who get excited by 8 tracks on a CD. WOW
Look around and you will find top producers with Akai MPC's. Infact i don't see the MV ever becoming legendary like the MPC line...period.
BTW, for my use, the 4000 OS is and has been rock solid for 3 years now.

I'm selling my 4k now that I have the 8800. It looks way better than the 4k in person. Learning curve is there but hey if you don't want to learn equiptment then you should just listen to music and stop trying to make it! So far I think the sound and sequencer on the 4k is better. Its also built more solid. The pads feel close to the same. I believe once I get pass this curve I'll be satisfied.

For the records, i owned a 4000 before knowing any famous users. I have been a 4000 user since 2003 (others on this forum since 2002). I also bought an MV and felt like i waisted my car fuel picking the damn thing up. I have never been in such a rush to return a product.
The MV is a total POS..Period.
