i have both, the main problem i had with the 1000 is the pads. ive had a couple pads not work as well as they should.

there you go... that is why going with a 2500 is the way to go...

is it the black edition or the blue and red that had pad troubles?
i'm in the same dilemma over the 2.
did jj also institute the lfo mod. on the 1000?

so far my MPC1000 is working fine... but I would go with a 2500 if you can.
