Roland MV series -Timing issue?

He's also correct on the editing side of things! With all the features and arrangements that can be done after you make "the music" that the image above is PRICELESS to have.

I respect everybody's opinion and everybody is entitled to work any way they wish, but for my work-flow... it speeds me up rather than slow me down!

So while we're talking about what's too much....using the same image above, I can see all the tracks, re-arrange the order, hide or show different types of tracks. MOST IMPORTANT....I can solo or mute tracks without touching a jog wheel or having to remember what number to punch in just to find the right track.

The pop-up box in the middle [shown above] is for pattern (beat) banks, a different use for the pads. You can assign 96 patterns to each pad, no matter how long or short, although the MV lets you have over 500 patterns per project. This screen is great for setting up your songs intro's, hooks, choruses, bridges, or whatever! I suppose you don't need a big screen for that, but damn it makes life easy! Using that jog wheel and punching numbers on my MPC was soooo slow because if I would spin it too fast....I'd skip something.

Now imagine using ProTools, Cubase, Reason or whatever with a little tiny screen. Some think the MV's screen is too much like using software! Hmmm! What's wrong with having a little of both worlds? Again, I'm not here to bash...I like MPC's and anybody who has one should keep it and never part with it if possible!

Some people just say crazy stuff and it makes me laugh! Hey, I have dual airbags in my car. I may never use them, but I want them there just in case I need them! Same concept with the MV's extra "STUFF."

Roland used extended graphical interfaces even before the first MPC was a prototype - so it's nothing new. If you have to see a cluttered lcd with cryptic abbreviations and text that's cool by me. For myself a good interface is everything. The easier to navigate the better.

My 4000 is sweet but the MV has become my primary sampler because of the interface. If you look at the S-5000/6000 interfaces you could clearly see that Akai was headed in the same direction as Roland.

If they hadn't went belly up I'm sure the 2500 type interface wouldn't be plastered onto a flagship model.

There is a post on this forum where Jermain Dupree admitted that he made ALL of his tracks with the mpc 60. It was from an interview with Jermain Dupree I think it was scratch? So basically that would mean that he never sequenced on the MV. He was basically paid to say good things about the MV

To me the Roland MV seemed like it was trying to take the place of a computer in terms of its GUI.

Plus the Roland MV doesn't have 8 outs! = not fun for tracking. roland wants u to make the beat entirely in that machine which is possible but can be somewhat

C'mon dog - What difference does it make? He could have done it in Battery if he wanted to. What Jermaine Dupree uses is irrelevant unless someone plans to copy his sh!t. Blaze tossed his 4000 in the trash in favor of Battery are you guys gonna follow behind blindly ?

BTW- Mike Acosta listed the tracks JD used the MV on over mvnation somewhere.

None of the top producers anywhere give a flying sh!t about what we think or what gear we use...why should we place so much emphasis on their gear? You don't know anything about these people other than what they tell you.

There's a debate in every music forum on gear! Then there's always a comment that it's not about the gear but the skill of the user, which is true! I have respect for both sides and I know the debate will never end though. Jordan used Nike shoes on the court....he got paid to endorse them too. That doesn't mean that everybody that bought Air-Jordans made it to the NBA or could even slam dunk for that matter. Who cares what JD uses in the studio? An individual could have every piece of gear that exist on this planet and still put out butt-crack tracks. If having a MPC device made you a star....every member on this forum with a MPC would be famous, right? Same for the MV units!

Since the MV & MPC's work almost the same, I come here to help people as well as gain knowledge and ideas. I will defend the MV if someone makes a false statement. However, everybody has the right to use the gear they're comfortable with.
