from what i have gathered in other forums, its like comparing a apple to an orange. the 5000 is goin to have different features but their are still things that will make the mpc2500 unique. Every MPC has their own character. The price of the MPC2500 shouldnt drop.

It's dropped down to $1699 at GC and the remaining Limited series is being purges at $1999. That's a $300 drop on both units since the 5000 debut.
It's interesting is that Akai still hasn't sold the 500 Limited Edition units yet.

to be honest, id be more likely to get the 500 than the 5000 cos I could make a beat whilst having a crap
