1000 or 500

ive got 2 bids on ebay on the go...one at £50 for a 500 and im waiting for a last min bid on a 1000 at just under £300...would it be worth it for the 500. Any past experiances?

and i do travel alot so portability facts would be good thanks:D

I've had both. I sold my 500. In my opinion:


500: high on portability, low on workflow. Screen navigation is a little akward, as is the tiny little screen. I used it when I was taking the bus to work, but really found that it was just too hard to concentrate on beatmaking on the go.

1000: not 'very' portable, but portable if you need it to be. With the JJOS, this machine is a beast. With the JJOS, its basically an mpc2500 missing two extra outs and an extra two midi outs. For workflow and capability, imo you can't find a better mpc.

it seems like i might lose the bid on the 1000...so do you reckon i should cop a 500?

Again, its really up to whether or not portability is important to you. This of course is the benefit of the 500 over the 1k. IMO in terms of pure power, sampling, slicing, chopping, timestretching, looping, sequencing, the 1k is much faster and easier to use.

The allure of the 500 is that it is very, very portable.

My opinion, get a 1000. I found that even with the portability, I was in my home studio half the time anyway so portability wasn't an issue. I think it comes down to really getting into what you will use it for, and making a decision from there. If you truly will be on the go, and think you will use it on the go on a continual basis, I say go for it. If not, I'd spend the extra few hundred for a used 1k and get a ton more features and faster workflow.

aha thanks man appreciated...yeh i lost out on the 1000 bid so im goin for the 500 with a lil sneeky last minute bid lol (something some shit did to me on the mpc 2000xl) but yeh im constantly moving everything to my mums every weekend (like my laptop and shit) so the smaller, the easier imo...but i just wanna know if you can chop and assign samples on the mp...i dont care if its hard lol...BUT also cuz the portability i will be able to travel to different studios with it.

500's an accessory to a 1k, imo. a nice one at that. but i can't see myself using a 500 in replacement of a 1k

I'd go ahead and get that 1000. Don't sell yourself short with the 500 if its a 1000 you really want. Like someone said above, get that JJOS in it and its pretty much a mini 2500.

I bought a 500 and wasn't pleased with the user interface. I made a couple of beats on it than a week later returned it back to Guitar Center and got a 1000.

I have to say that I'm completely satisfied with the 1000. Its is a powerful and portable.

you'll kick yourself in the ass if u go with the 500.

Had a 500, but after a few weeks already I found out the mpc 500 is very limited. Was in heaven when I won a bid on marktplaats (Dutch e-bay) for a mpc1000.
In the beginning a 500 is a lot of fun, but after a few months you want more. So save yourself a lot of hussle and go out to get the 1k is my advice.
