what's wrong with the MPC 2000

I am looking into purchasing an MPC. I was told to stay away from the 2000 but without any explanation why. I am looking at used gear and it looks like I can pick one up for about $400 versus $900 for the XL or even the 1000's are still pretty expensive for a beginner. Can anyone shed some light on this subject. I will be using it for some hip hop and R&B songs but with some real guitar and singing on top. Also, I don't have a turntable and a bunch of vinyl LP's laying around to sample from either. Thanks

Check out feature and spec lists for all the MPCs. Skim through manuals too. Think about what fits the way you would like to work most. Think about what you need and what you don't need, in terms of features.

Check out YouTube videos of the MPCs that fit around your price range too.

If the 2000 fits what you need and how you would like to work then just get one and don't let other people tell you what's best to get. At the end of the day its your money being spent.

Buy used gear, check Craigslist and eBay. You can find an XL for around $500. You just have to look and be patient.

cop an xl for one reason.............tilt screen its not the only reason but its a good one.

you will not be able to have folder structure on storage media with a classic.
every sample / pgm / seq would be on the root of the floppy / zip / cf card

You can only have one program running at once on the 2000, its 4 for the 2000xl.

These are all nice machines,it all depends on how much you want to spend and what you want to do with it. A 1000 with new pads is better value in my opinon, the 2500 is pretty much the same as this but with more outputs, bigger pads and more expensive.
