Who can give an idealistic analysis of your MPC? 2 parts.

I've been reading these forums for a while now and finally signed up so I could post this question. I've been contemplating buying a MPC for sometime now and have decided it would be the right decision. For me I have been back and forth, as it seems many are, between a 2500 and a 3000. As a musician first and a producer/ tech head/whatever else a DISTANT second the ability of a machine to output music is worth more than its weight in gold, and the ability of a machine slice bread and do my taxes is not that important however mixing and mastering in PT is a necessity (understand that I believe you cannot give someone a Stratocaster and expect to hear Hendrix or Clapton).

These are my ideals and convictions as a musician and this is where I am in my decision between each machine. So I ask does the 3000 or the 2500, after knowing these conditions, perform better? And I follow that with another question, "what are your ideals in regards to your production and how you work? Did they relate to your decision on your MPC or your decision against another machine? How?

That was kind of long but I think that these are the underlying questions that must be answered for one to conclude the adeptness of one machine over another.

Go with a 2500. There is something to be said for the build of the 3k, but claims of it's "musical superiority" are highly overstated. The 2500 has good brains, especially with the JJOS installed. Plus, it's a more modern machine, which means it will most likely be more compatible with your modern setup. But definitely search the comparison forum for more info... no amount of what I tell you can make up for a little homework on your part.

whatever you do, buy used when possible and fix at home!!! save yourself a lot of money...

Nym, that is true, but a lot of people are incapable and will break their shit worse.

BTW...was that "dip your MPC in water and put in the freezer" tip for real?

haha hear me when i tell you--even some of the most incapable mf'ers out there can do basic repairs on mpcs like pad replacement, tact switch/rotary encoder replacement...

maybe folks are just too embarassed but i have not 1 time heard someone come here like "i screwed up my mpc by soldering everything wrong"

i'm currently on the hunt for a completely broken broken busted 1000 so i can do my thing with it and not have to unplug/replug my own when i want DAW

Would you rather use zip disks, floppys or compact cards to save your data? (drums, samples, sequence data, etc.) if yes = 3000
..or
Save to an internal hd and transfer data via USB? (no external physical medium needed) if yes = 2500

Are you a collector of vintage gear or a producer? or both? if both = 3000

Will you truely need 11+ mins of sample time?

Will you be needing band/low/high pass filters or just one low pass is fine?

Still using SMPTE? if yes = 3000

Like using the track mute screen? the 3000 doesnt have one so...

Waveform editing sound like a convenient luxury? if yes = 2500

You may have read about the 3000 having warmer converters...but do you know what they mean by "warmer"? Also, do you process your drums/samples after they've been tracked into protools?

These are questions you'll need to ask yourself. The 2500 can do everything a 3000 can (plus more) and for cheaper. All this info and opinions but it always comes down to what YOU want/need.

IMO, if you're looking into an MPC get the 2500. With the JJos you can take the machine even further than as advertised in the AKAI comparison charts.

Everyone seems to say that the 2500 does everything and more however after reading the literature it seems that it does do a lot of things but not many things that can't be done on the 3000. What features do people here use on the 2500 that make it the be all end all sampler for you? I mean I don't see any reason that people can't make any given beat on a 3000, granted it might take more time and effort it seems but it seems in terms of quality and I mean stability in structure and software, that the 3000 holds more weight.

who would wanna make things harder on themselves? the way I see it, I turn 24 this month. Not old but not, definitely not getting younger. I use an xl wit an asr-10. If the o.s V1.20 doesn't have what I expect (as in the chop shop feature) then I'm selling those for a 2500 with that o.s. I like choppin samples on the a.., hold on I LOVE choppin samples on the asr, but doin that and sequencing on the mp is kinda in the way. I'm short on cash to be flat out. I need new speakers and a mixing board with phantom power to power my mic. so all this I'll never do software blahzay blah is in the way. I like ease of use and being able to express my own ideas, cause not everyone listens to music the same way. This is a long winded explanation to my thread that people only viewed and did not answer in the 2000,2000xl board. I don't know if some didn't have an honest answer for me, or were just real crab ****** and felt I was "foolish" for MY own views. If you can, please help me out. God bless!
