SR-18 and XR-20 are the same machines

They may be based on the same tech but they are different enough, that's why the SR-18 is cheaper.

Mic =Instrument (no phantom) and Roll =Note repeat. Theres is nothing to suggest that they have different sounds , however it's odd that they have identical 32MB libraries. The Alesis list the sounds-the Akai doesn't. Lighted pads are purely cosmetic. It's the same machine. Get over it already.

To you whiners:

This is how the modern world works. It has its good and bad points. The bad news is that Numark is a money whoring company. the good news is that they have lots of money from all the whoring they do. They can afford to take chances on new technology, and are putting out some pretty sweet stuff.

But by all means, keep whining, but keep it constructive. We need that kind of input. The engineers and product developers at Numark DO read these kinds of forums.

IMHO we are living in a golden age of live performance and other musical electronics. The stuff we have now compared to 20 years ago is amazing.


On a side note: I find it interesting that people **** about lighted pads. Are you serious? Why the fvck should you care if the pads light up!?!? Complaining about awesome stuff like light-up pads is like complaining that your car looks too cool or that your girlfriend is too hot.

Light up pads are awesome, but I want the whole damn case to light up. Come to think of it, I want the case to transform into a little robot that follows me around. I might be happy then as long as the robot lights up too.

I have the new AKAI XR-20 Sounds already but I never listen to the ALesis one so I don't know if they are the same.

the akai samples are geared more towards hiphop heads, and the alesis is geared towards rock heads.


there is definitely a difference between the models samplewise. however, from afar the two units look exactly the same.
