MPC 1000 vs 2000xl sound

Hi!

I can't decide between the 2000xl and the MPC1000.

I could have the 1000 with 80gb hd and 128mb ram. the xl with cd-drive, output board and zip-drive. Some people told me, that the sound of the xl is much better and more oldschool than the mpc 1000 sound. And I like sounds like Mobb Deeps Shook Ones and so on. What do you think about it ?

If your going for an old school sound the 2kxl can resample and mess with the bits- it can sound nice on the drums. but the 1k has some nice FX to help you get the sound your going for.

btw shook ones is the sound of old vinyl. You would get that sound with either the 1k or 2kxl.

Well, I would sample from old vinyl anyway, because that's the original way

I am just wondering if some professional producers work with the 1k.
Everyone uses the MPC2kxl.

who you trying to imitate in producing ?

cuz obviously you not doing you.

look up what producer you trying imitate uses buy the same gear

shook ones came out in 95, the mpc 2000 in 97, so this machine has nothing to do with the sound of the song..

most people swear to the sound of the mpc 60/3000, many people say the 2000/xl doesnt sound good, some say it does.
but i didnt hear any bad about the 1000/2500 so i say: go for the 1000 as i will too!!

i think the 2000 xl does sound good, it definitly colors the sound.

to my ears it sounds and grooves much better than the mpc-2500 which i tested side by side.

there is definitely no difference between the 2000XL and the 1000 sound, because both sound-engines (A/D + D/A converters) works with 44,1KHz/16bit (of course, that means without using any FX). What you put into, you´ll get out of it. Doesn´t matter, if there are 12 years between the birth of both machines.
The Older ones MPC60+3000 works with other, old style sound-engines (32KHz/12bit I think) - sure it´ll sound different.
When you discribe the flow of the sequencer as a part of the sound of the MPCs, there IS a great difference between the older and younger generation af MPCs. The sequencing "feel" of the old generation MPC is legendary like ATARI-Computers for using as MIDI-Sequencer Thats the reason, I´ll never sell my MPC2000XL!

I would have to disagree with the above statement, we all perceive sound different. In my opinion 2xl sounds warmer (which is nice if you into it) than newer mpc series aka 1000, 2500. and 1000, and 2500sound snappier vs 2xl. There was a comparison thread somewhere in the forums where even hardcore 3000 enthusiasts got thrown off by the sound of1000,2500 vs 3000.

the 2000 definitly sounds different as i compared them side by side.

the 2500 kind sounds very clean with a lot more top end than the 2000, maybe a bit harsh. no sound coloration at all.


the 2000 xl colors the sound in a nice way, has less top end and the typical akai old school sound. not gritty but nice.

thats one of the reason why i sold my 2500 because i like the sound, groove and build quality of the 2000 xl better.

and yes there is a sound difference between 44.1 khz 16 converters..
