MPC 5000 OS 3.0 Vs Linn Drum 2

Hello,

For myself, money collecting for either one of these machines starts NOW! It might take a long time, but I hope its worth it. I have exhausted myself for using Software (which really has nothing to complain, except that Im so bored using a computer to make music, that I could throw this thing off the cliff.)

So, My criterias are this:

-Advanced chopping functions. I want a machine that can atleast do what JJ OS can do with the 2500 chopwise.

-960PPQN

-Decent effects

Thats not much asked right? Sadly there isn´t a machine on the market can do this. 2500 with JJ would be perfect, but the 960 PPQN is pretty important, since I want my machine to be on date and If I decide one day to turn the timing off, its really turned off for good.

What do you think? Will Akai release another update that will make great chop functions or will the Linn Drum 2 take the jackpot?

At least the Wakai 3500 can be purchased, Sheeit, doesn't even the 'BeatQueens' box have a release date?

The "hurry up and wait" philosophy has gotten old. Linn/Smith run a serious risk of loosing a lot of potential buyers. Too many folks are just tired of waiting. They should at least give a glimpse of the OS or some screenshots so that we can see that there's more to this cg mockups. I think they may need another major investor given the way the the unit (and obviuosly) the cost) has changed.

That catalog entry has been up for months and the LinnII has changed drastically in design since that pic was released. It's still just concept art for now.

Every new MPC 'NUAKAI' has created is equal to or higher quality than anything Roger Linn has done in the past decade. Since you act as if you have knowledge on the subject, please show us a Roger Linn product (without the Akai name) in the past 20 years that is of higher quality than the latest MPCs.

I will have to disagree here, I cant vouch for every model of MPC released by him, but I can vouch for 2xl and 4000. Those machines way solid and superior build quality to what nukai has been putting out.

Also lets not forget that machines he produced were the shit for the time and age they released. But we havent really seen anything new from nukai, besides the cheap remakes they been making.

You are such a f... ROGER LINN MPC:s were superior to the Nukai samplers TO THEIR TIME! THEY WERE ON DATE WHEN THEY WERE RELEASED, The new MPC:s suck and are far behind their time and tehcnology.

Linn is an accomplished guitarist and that's who that unit is built for. It's an effect box that syncs to to tempo. The drums are for accompaniment not for any serious beat making. As a foot unit, the floor is no place for a barrage of pads and buttons. Anyway it's pretty far from being a toy in any sense , especially in price.

The operating systems of the Roger Linn/Akai colabo are way inferior to anything released since they parted ways.

You can talk about build quality all day...but the MPC 3000 was not bullet proof. The LCD screens do not last forever. The LCD screens eventually become unreadable and need to be replaced. The buttons have tact switches that wear out like any other MPC. I do not find the MPC 2500 or 5000 to be cheaply made. They are more streamlined and lighter which is the case for all workstations.

And as I said before, Roger Linn has not built anything on the level of the MPC 3000 in decades. So get off his nuts

Can't comment on the 5k but the quality of the PCBs in the 2k5 is terrible. Couldn't believe it for the price of the unit and how sturdy it feels/looks from the outside. The "balanced" outputs are as cheap as they can be, with terrible impedance when they could of spent less than £2 per channel to use a proper cross-coupled output chip and brought the output down to a more standard <100Ohm. In fact may of not even cost any extra as would have two less op-amps, minus the two transistors (final output stage/protection) and a few other cheap components. And these are just what I've noticed so far with my short ownership of the thing.
