Used 2000xl or new 1000

Gotten an offer to buy a used, but in good condition 2000xl with a zipdrive and maxed memory. Its half the price of a new basic 1000. It will be my first mpc.

Why should I not go for the XL?

And what is a zip-drive? Does it mean that I cant save beats on the machine but have to use some sort of discs. I know... Im a noob...

2000 is an awesome workhorse.

if this is your first MPC I would highly consider a used 1000. If you can afford a 2500 I would go that route.

the MPC1000 is my first and to be able to connect it to the MAC/PC via USB makes life with the sampler so much easier.

the older technology Hardware might be cumbersome to work with. Just my opinion.

I hear U but it's not easy finding used MPCs up here in Norway

And figured out the zip-issue. Can change the zip-drive with a $50-flashcardreader, so guess that won't be a problem....

Can get the XL for $1000 while a new 1000 is about $1500 and the 2500 is $2500.. Expensive up here....

have you tried eBay?

Still have to pay shipping overseas and Norwegian taxes ( 25% ) on top

go for the XL

or if you want to use it with computer maybe it will better to go for the 1000

I thought I saw a couple on eBay from Canada and the UK...

if you happen to make a trip to the states you can pick one up at Guitar Center.

go 2000xl if that is your only choice.

since you live in a remote part of the world where access to certain things are limited then I would go ahead and jump on the best deal you can for your money. Have you considered an Akai MPD 24 or Triggerfinger, or similar controllers? If you already use a computer and have some music software these controllers give you a lot of bang for your buck...

"And what is a zip-drive?",... is the key! Go with newer technology. As much as I love my 2000XL, I think you should stick with something with just a tad more versatility & something you can hook up to your computer easily.

UNLESS!,...you like a little pain & in that case, just get an EMU SP-12!

Ok, truth is, if I had to do it again, I would still get 2000XL.

That 2500 is a great option.

1000 pad problems have been widely known for a few years now. dont go pick one up, come back and complain that you have busted pads. the 1k is a capable machine, but still only as strong as its weakest link. if you plan on not using the pads, then go right ahead.

they recently lowered the price for mpc's here in sweden, get one here.

i had 2 mpc 1000's both for one year.. never had any problems with the pads

Besides there's coming a pad fix.. and besides that.. JJ OS!

If You go for the 1k, the pads will become unresponsive at some point in the future. I had the 1k and returned it for that reason (I was lucky and they gave me money back) so I bought a 2kxl, but I did not like the fact that it had no filters except low pass, mono programs (allowing you to hit the pads with samples on them, each one quiting the sound of the other), no effects at all (I did not buy the effect board). Those are things I missed from the 1k, but the way the mpc was built was much better and I liked the feeling of the machine a bit more. If 2kxl was my first one I would be happy to have it, but I wanted the effects and filters and mono programs back, so I sold it (luckily for a higher price) and I am getting the 2500 as it combines the best of both machines. If you can afford it, go for it.
