seriously dudes, should i keep my MPC1K or get a MPC2K XL?

Im being offered a direct trade. I'm running OS2 and thats the ONLY reason I haven't switched over yet. I hate the pads on this **** and dont want to pay for the better feeling ones, its not fair. I do want the 2000XL but JJ wont fux with it. sooo whats really good dudes?

i switched fromm 2kxl to 1k 3 years ago, and it was worth it since akai os v2. jj put this machine to a level i wouldn't have dreamt of. my pads are breaking and i don't think it's fair haveing to buy new ones, too. but still i would never switch back to 2kxl. it's large and heavy and can't do sh!t compared to jjs os. i wouldn't switch from my notebook to a 1997 pentium 1 just because the hdd is broken, if you know what i mean.
so, long story short: don't do it, seriously!

i agree with commander robot entirely. Ive used mpc 2000 classic and xl, the workflow is way quicker on the 1000.Theres too many reasons for me to mention. MPC 1000 plus pad fix is still better value in my opinion.

yeah theres was a time when i seriously wanted to switch to the 2000XL...but its work flow is just a million times slower than the 1000....and after using the 1000 for so long and how easy it is to upload and stuff....youll hate the 2000XL.

I also felt unfair to pay another $180 for a replacement pad. But I bought the new pad and it's just worth it with JJ OS.

MPC1000 with JJ OS is unbeatable.

If someone could make a new OS voor the 2kXL with just a couple of changes it would be the best machine!

I think the mpc2000xl is a good machine to but i think it'd probably need a new processer to match the 1000 in terms of workflow speed... Akai have done it already and called it the mpc2500! It even takes ages for the screen to draw the waveform on the xl which is a pain in the backside.

Get the 2500, no doubt. I've had the 60/2000xl/1000 and im getting the 2500 or 5000. The 2kxl cpu is too slow these days.

In my experience this is what happened to me:
I was a MPC3000 user for many years in the 90's. I decided to go with the MPC2000XL when it came out. Went back and forth between the MPC3000 and the MPC2000XL as I couldn't decide which I liked better (they both have its plus and minus).
The MPC1000 came out and I said, well I will give it a shot.. Ended up selling my MPC2000XL and MPC3000 as I needed space and the MPC1000 was a perfect size, got a deal on it ($300-$450 at the time), it had a card reader (no more zips), etc..BIG MISTAKE.. The MPC1000 felt pretty cheap and I hated the green screen. I had a new record coming up and just couldnt get anything done with the MPC1000.. So I ended up selling it (luckily for a profit) and bought another MPC2000XL as I felt pretty comfortable on the machine and could get things done. (Keep in mind I can make a record with just one MPC2000XL or MPC3000 without any other gear Since I learned both machines inside out, like many people out there)..

So if you could get a deal on a MPC2000XL, I would go with it, but that is because of all the above I mentioned.. Plus the resale is better perhaps with the MPC2000XL if you want to sell it (I think anyway you may want to check that)..
I guess you have to ask yourself:
How much can you get done on the MPC1000 now and do you have time to learn a new machine?

The 1k with ANY jj OS is a beast over previous MPC's. I say either keep what you got or get a 2500.

Go with what works for you. If you're having doubts about switching don't sell your 1000 and save up for an xl. Compare the two side by side and see which one you like best.

All is a matter of personal preference. Features is one thing but the most important is the guy behind the gear and what's comfortable for him.

I am in the same situation as you right now. I like the size of the 1000 but the pads are too small and too close together. Not to mention completely insensitive - like playing a roland r8. I like the speed, but F* speed when you try to perform on those "pads/squares"! I am leaning towards getting a 3000 again (for some reason things made in CHINA don't sit well with me personally). If you can get a loaded 2000XL with MCD card reader and 8-outs what more do you really want? The design is certainly acceptable. Who knows maybe JJ will do OS upgrade.
